Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Up until this afternoon, I was sorely pressed to find a strategy to justify another viewing before January 25th (the South Florida mini-moot).
Then it hit me! I haven't used my free movie pass that came with the FoTR Extended Edition. And it expires on December 31st, doncha know. Can't let it go to waste, can I? Tee hee!

I can't even choose which race I like best. I like a little 4 foot guy and an elf.
To: Overtaxed
So it seems. Although, I do believe that some of Shadowfax's poo was used in the forging of the three Rings of Power for the race of Elves. Guess whose Ring contained the most poo? HAHAHAA!

OK, I've got to reboot and then start the next download.
I'll be back in a bit.

See, I am attracted hands-down to the human men. Some of the Elves from Sil are nice, though. If I could be a character from Tolkien I would be Eowyn or Luthien.

And it expires on December 31st, doncha know. Can't let it go to waste, can I?Good thinking! Now, when will you be able to see it between now and the 31st? :)

Aahhhh.....the Unified Poo Theory! That explains the lack of plumbing stacks at Rivendell and why Elrond.....

I'm glad I've got my tickets, but I'm going to have to convince my wife and neighbor that we MUST leave an hour early!
To: Scott from the Left Coast
I would, to get a good seat! Don't sit too close.
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
I'm not sure, but it will be ASAP! Maybe I'll ask for a night to myself as an early birthday present from hubby!

Did you see anything that will keep you from taking Matthew? No! I found it was better than FOTR in this respect...the battle scenes weren't near as gory as Lurtz having his head cut off or that one decapitation in Moria where the black blood shoots out...yeek! The decaps are so fast in TTT that you hardly notice them!
I think the worst thing in FOTR was the departure of Boromir...the boys have never seen it. I think it's just too graphic and emotionally upsetting for them. They are so cute, they dutifully turn around and sit with their backs to the TV until they hear the part right after Lurtz is decapitated. Then they turn back around!
I'll definitely take Matthew. Josh can wait till the .50 theater.

What's the address to the chat room, Hair, I forgot again?
I'm sorry.

A life? What's that? :)
I think its a breakfast cereal.
Of course (as always) I could be wrong.

I agree... I don't know why it was spoken of in reviews as being borderline on its PG rating because of violence.
To: RMDupree
Honestly though, they were somewhat necessary in that they explained what Arwen is giving up, they showed the future loneliness she would face and the pain of a father becoming second in his daughter's heart to another man. It made Elrond seem a little more human.
I supposed so. I sometimes forget that most people have never read the books. Mores the pity.

Hullo! We are returned from our sojourn into Middle-Earth and I am on sensory overload.
First, a little whine...grumble, grumble, grumble...
Like most everyone here, our plans for seeing the movie had been set for weeks. Yesterday, my wife tells me Corin Jr's best friend and dad want to go with us. That's cool, I thought. We saw Spiderman together and that was fun. So I went today to buy our tickets for the 8:15 show. We were to meet at the theater between 7:30-7:45. They showed up at 8:05 p.m.
I didn't think it would be a problem 'til we got in. We ended up sitting on the third row. I'm nearsighted and I have problems with depth perception. I don't do 3-D movies or rides at amusement parks. So, I spent the first 30-45 minutes with my head spinning and feeling like I was gonna hurl.
And, as if that wasn't bad enough, the dad TALKED THROUGH THE ENTIRE MOVIE!!!!!!! He was continually making comments through the movie...how'd they do Gollum, is that Theoden guy and actor I should recognize, etc. etc. I was so p'od!
I know that we are called in life to spend time among the unwashed masses. But I got the distinct impression that they did not understand that this was a pilgrimage. I think they actually thought it was . . . gulp . . . entertainment.
I don't have enough brain cells awake to do a thorough review of the movie, and I need to see it again anyway, but here are some initial impression:
Gollum is fabulous! I think my favorite part of the movie was the conversation between Smeagol and Gollum. It was brilliantly done. (Didn't we see somewhere in the spoilers over the last year a picture of Smeagol and Deagol in a fishing boat?)
I didn't like Faramir. I thought I'd have an affection of sorts for the character based on a fondness for Boromir at the end of the first movie (and the book of course). But I just didn't like him.
I thought Eowyn was weak. I picture her as a much stronger woman. She looked a little too delicate to me.
I'm sure I'll have more comments once I see it again.
