This is our own corner of Free Republic where homeschoolers can discuss what curriculum we use, vent when needed, share our successes, compare notes, alert each other to things we find on the internet, and vent some more.

Simplifying the National Anthem : Because its just that hard to teach kids to use a dictionary.
"Freedom is not the natural state of man, merely the perfect one."

Good morning, It's going to be another warm one here. It is starting to cool off though. We were 101 on Sunday, 98 yesterday and I believe that it is suppose to drop even some more today.
Our local fair starts next Wednesday and we traditionally get rain one day during the fair. Looking forward to having the rain and for the fair.

Flooded FReeper in FLA. It is pouring this morning in Jax, and unfortunately, when the tide is in, there is no place for the runnoff to go. (This is part of the bands associated with Isadore, so I am wondering why it is so delightful in TX?)
I went to my local homeschool bookstore yesterday to find some upper level trig and geometry for my 16 year old. All we found was Bob Jones and I just can't get him into it. I am wondering if any other FReepers have some recommendations for resources for this?
I am in luck because my father in law is a mathemetician and may be willing to provide an intensive math "boot camp" for the kid, but I would prefer to send him to St. Pete with some lesson plans.

As far as getting textbooks....www.rainbowresource.com has a huge selection to choose from. I use Singapore Math for my elementary school-age kids....they have textbooks for older kids too which you may want to check out -- www.singaporemath.com

Send some of that cool, crisp air our way. Yesterday, it was 108 in Phoenix. Well above normal high of 95 degrees.

Good afternoon bump!

Saxon math is a great curriculum for all grades. I have been using it for the past 9 years. They incorporate the geometry into the algebra text so you don't have to buy a separate program for it. It has a lot or repetative work to make sure that they have the concepts down. Some kids don't need it, and some teacher don't like that aspect of it. State tests have shown superior results with the curriculum for home school, private and government school.

I hear ya, Dutchgirl! I can't wait to see some beautiful, cool and crisp mornings in JAX!
