Jury begins deliberations -Prosecutor says victim has pointed to her killer (keep it civil)
UNION-TRIBUNE signonsandiego.com ^ | August 9, 2002 | Alex Roth

Jurors in the David Westerfield trial began deliberating yesterday after hearing a final statement from the lead prosecutor, who beamed a photo of 7-year-old Danielle van Dam onto the wall and urged the jury to focus on the physical evidence.

Finishing closing arguments in the two-month murder trial, prosecutor Jeff Dusek called a blood spot on Westerfield's jacket the "smoking gun." And Dusek imagined what Danielle might tell the jury if someone could bring her back to life "just for a moment" so she could answer the question, "Please tell us who did this to you."

"I've already told you," Dusek said the girl would tell the jury. "I've told you with my hair and where you found it. I've told you with the orange fiber that you found on my choker, and where you found it.

I'm far too poor to buy a $150 or more light setup so I plan
on building one. Actually I'm too cheap/inventive to buy one.

Particurally where do I get good batries. Nicads seem like a
bad idea because of the short life. I've got one of those akline
rechargers that I could probably rig to recharge larger battries.
I'd also like a battry(ies) I could put in a bottle/cage.

Also I've got a Preview XE (2W) that runs -forever- on 4AAs.
Can I change the bulb to maybe 5W without melting the unit and
still get 30-45min out of it. If so where do I get a bulb.
(Don't tell me to go spend $8 at my LBS please :-)

I've seen references to locations for info on making your own
light system but I am without external web access (sob, sob).
So would one of you kind people mail me some info?

Any help appreciated.

Like the hand print that only showed up after her fingers were rehydrated?

???

Her prints in the MH were found on 2/8. Well before her body was found.

And the organge fibers that were found in the SUV when they went back after they saw the orange on her necklace?

Like the prints, fibers in SUV recovered first week of February (before the SUV returned to him), well before the body with orange fiber in necklace was found.

No one has responded to my post from last night about why the drycleaners weren't asked in court to identify the items that DW brought in - does that mean you guys all think I'm on the wrong track here? It's still bugging me, but if you guys think I'm nuts, I'll stop worrying about it.

No not at all. The problem is Julie Mills is an airhead, she's worked there for twelve years and didn't know the address !
In addition she has a confused memory of the computer time being off, mistakes Dusek for Bill Riech, then enters the order under another customers name. The police dectective is the first reliable person to have custody.

Why Feldman didn't exploit this, I have no idea.

Good obersevation, John. It's like he enjoys the journey more than the destination. He likes the games and quests, the challenge of wheeling and dealing.

It's prbably safe to say that mindset describes his sexual activites. It sure does describe his testimonies at the trial and at the ph, and his acitivites while LE was looking for Danielle and putting together their case against DW (Magnets on the alarm system.)

Similar approach to his suggestions to the bike people, where he talked about putting i.d. in the tube that the seat fits on.

He also seems to enjoy the thrill of almost getting caught. Again, his sex life and his trip on the 16th of February suggest that. Does Danielle's death?

Is he reading these threads and getting a charge out of all of us spending so much time trying to figure out the truth of what might have well been HIS escapade?

Can any of you printer wizards help me out?

I've got an LN-03R printer that gives a field service and controller error with
a 7 1 on the desplay.
When the main logic board (controller??) has the chips reseated it will not give
an error on the first power-up, but fails after being shut off once.

I was hoping to find a defective chip. Sending the board off is too expensive.
Any help would be appreciated. Please mail me though dvd@eng.ufl.edu as I don
t rn often.

thanks in advance.

Do you mind posting the particulars, please?

In both case, IIRC, the technician was in the process of evaluating evidence and then went back ('on a hunch' in the case of the hand print), to look for more evidence in a particular place.

I thought I recalled Shen(?) saying the orange fiber in Danielle's necklace intrigued her so she went to look for some more.

I could be wrong on the timing, it has happened. My being wrong, that is.

If Damon did, indeed, dump the body, (and I'm inclined to believe that he did), why did he dump it in the worng spot?

Remember the phone call on Feb 16th (speculation):

"Hi Brenda, its me. Lotta searchers and press out here in Glamis, I mean a whole bunch!. We handed out flyers, and will be heading back towards town and put up some signs were the searchers might have missed, I hope they start looking closer to town for Danielle. Let's call a press conference this afternoon."

The first interesting thing I've learned about Damon's Wild Ride is that Dehesa Road is in between Poway and the four places he said he was going that day - Ocotillo Wells, Borrego Springs, Glamis and Brawley. If you left Poway and went to Dehesa, you could drive in pretty much a straight line to the four destination areas.

Right now my mouse is not configured properly for X and I don't know how to
get to a terminal. I also have Redhat loading X on startup. Is there anyway
to bypass the X startup while linux loads? Or can you tell me how to open up
a terminal in Gnome without a mouse?

Thanks

Give XF86Setup a shot. It'll let you configure everything as generic
stuff so you can have a fallback position when you push the limits of
your hardware. That's what I did until I could pick up the linux
voodoo3 driver.

Now if I can only figure out how to get linux to do my DSL's DHCP
server I can ditch winblows altogether.

I don't have a complete answer, but whenever X starts acting to badly, there is
always Ctrl-Alt-Backspace. This should kill X. From there, you may get to
the terminal.

If that fails, try telnetting in from another machine, su'ing and then set INIT
3. The INIT 3 makes Linux start up in command line mode. INIT 5 is startup in
X.

Hi Mike, I don't know if this answers your question, but on most Linux
setups Ctrl-Alt-f2 (or f3...) will open up a virtual console in place of
your X window. Here you can log in as root--or whatever--and try to fix
things up.

Maybe Damon didn't want to get too close to the areas of DW's "travels" because he knew that LE and volunteers were heavily concentrating on and searching those same areas at that time. Too big of a risk at being seen dumping something.

I don't see it that way. The first two places are near 78 the north route that DW took. Dehesa is south of I-8, much further south.
