I also have Redhat loading X on startup. Is there anyway to bypass the X startup while linux loads? Or can you tell me how to open up a terminal in Gnome without a mouse? It'll let you configure everything as generic stuff so you can have a fallback position when you push the limits of your hardware. That's what I did until I could pick up the linux voodoo3 driver. Now if I can only figure out how to get linux to do my DSL's DHCP server I can ditch winblows altogether. -Fyddler Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Share what you know. Learn what you don't. This should kill X. From there, you may get to the terminal. If that fails, try telnetting in from another machine, su'ing and then set INIT 3. The INIT 3 makes Linux start up in command line mode. INIT 5 is startup in X. Hi Mike, I don't know if this answers your question, but on most Linux setups Ctrl-Alt-f2 (or f3...) will open up a virtual console in place of your X window. Here you can log in as root--or whatever--and try to fix things up. -- Hugh Lawson Greensboro, North Carolina hglawson@nr.infi.net
