A challenge this week. (Cheating is not fair!) Name the location of this picture and the phenomenon that caused it.
I found this in an area on a site I visit frequently, and it has some spectacular photos and videos. The link is in the header, but you should post your guess before you go there to check it out.

One hint: this is normally a place you wouldn't mind visiting.
Also, NASA Earth Observatory has images of the eruption cloud from the eruption at Nyamuragira and a Space Shuttle photograph of the Mauna Loa caldera. Kilauea Eruption Update has some new ocean entry pictures from last week.

Hawaii? I can't think of the island name, but one of the islands has a barren moonscape type area.

My guess is Washington State, the aftermath of Mt. St. Helens.
Can I go look now? ;^)

My guess would be this is Monserrat and the beach-front huts have been buried by ashfalls from the Souifre (sp?) volcano...

Uh, somewhere in Italy? (guessing from the source you list). Definately volcanic in origin- very ashy/tuffy looking.

I am going to guess that this is on the island of Martinique- by the shape of the roofs, and the amount of ash and large volcanic debris covering the buildings. I also see a body of water in the distance- the Caribbean??

Too easy. (But I've been there.) I made my guess
and then checked to see if I was right.
