Bubble baths are underway. Dinner is made to order. The daily itinerary? Naps, training sessions and facials.
Outside, a happy pack tears around fenced-in play areas as staff keep watch from offices overlooking the grounds. The guests are dogs. And this is their country escape.
On a sunny afternoon at Far Fetched Acres in the Hudson Valley, one eager pup worked through a training session while others mingled in thoughtfully matched playgroups.
Inside the custom-built, 10,000-square-foot postmodern barn, lavender-scented air sets the mood. Each dog has a personalized cubby stocked with food, medications, toys and detailed instructions from home.
The menu is just as tailored. Alongside provisions brought from home, the camp serves special treats such as rabbit fur and dried mackerel.
Spread across 127 acres, the retreat gives city dogs room to roam, play and get gloriously filthy. Their parting gift? A much-needed bath before heading home.
Forget the doghouse. New York’s most pampered pooches are checking into country retreats where chauffeurs, gourmet meals, personal trainers and five-star pampering make every getaway the ultimate dog’s life.
A 2023 Pew Research Center survey found that 51% of dog owners consider their pets as much a part of the family as human relatives. With owners shelling out eye-popping sums to give their four-legged family members the good life, it’s clearly a dog’s world — and the humans are just footing the bill.

Mamdamacommie won’t be happy about this.
I like dogs but going overboard like this is stupid. Same with leaving your fortune to them in a will after you’re gone.
But the price of gas is making them vote Dem.
Those are the folks the DSA and friends like AOC should be going after to tax, not the entrepreneurs who risk everything to start a business and some are made successful and end up billionaires.
it’s none of my business how rich people spend their money. Most have earned it and can do what they like with it.
Pleasure means different things to different people.
Plus you dont have to carry me (unless you want to).
.
while I think its stupid, how’s this anybody elses business? It’s their $$$.
Makes more sense to me than, say, owning an expensive boat does...
As long as it pisses off goat humpers, it’s okay by me.
my pet is lucky to even get low end food
LMAO
A FReeper has posted that she catered a birthday party for a celebrity’s dog. Barbara Eden, I think.
It’s their money to spend with as they wish. I just can’t bring myself to be jealous over it.
Just gotta ask- how many abortions have they had/ been party to? I’m guessing they aren’t participating in “pure and undefiled religion” of taking care of widows and orphans in their distress. If they are, kudos to them and spending their money as they wish.
Why do you gotta ask? We know nothing more about these people than that they take lavish care of their pets; and they have no obligation to inform us further.
Another reason why we deserve an extinction level meteor hit.
I think I would have put a barf alert on that. It does induce a gag.
My dogs have always been well fed, sleep in a warm dry place and get a work out. Makes them happy and mentally calm.
My last one was a mutt and was very protective of the women in my home. She was very aggressive toward any kind of threat, would fight like hell with me, then settle down and sleep well.
My Lab Henry is just happy to get a treat after I tell him to sit and he does it.
Wonder how this will factor in to their experiences in hell.
Well, it IS their business how they spend their money on pets. I really loved my little Jack Russell while she lived, but she did just fine without all the “good life”. Of course, I didn’t have the money for it anyway.
