Salmon, beef, organic produce and Amy’s Kitchen meals: These are just some of the luxury foods that California welfare recipients can have delivered to their homes each week, for free.
Californians like TikTok user “Lupita” are taking full advantage. Earlier this year, she posted a video of herself opening a taxpayer-funded grocery box, apologizing to her manicurist as she unboxed it by hand. Inside, she found carrots, heads of broccoli, apples, oranges, celery, rice, lettuce and more.
“Yesterday, I was like, ‘I need some lettuce,’ but the lettuce was like $5,” she said. “And look at this. Fresh lettuce! Thank you, God.”
She can also thank Gov. Gavin Newsom. As part of his nearly $12 billion Medicaid reform package, welfare recipients — including illegal immigrants — can receive free, “medically tailored” meals and groceries, delivered straight to their doors. They can obtain foods for free that would cost ordinary people a small fortune.
The food service is part of CalAIM, Newsom’s multibillion-dollar Medi-Cal reform package. Signed into law in 2021, CalAIM directs Medicaid dollars to social programs like transitional rent payments and housing deposits. Newsom called it a “once-in-a-generation opportunity to completely transform the Medicaid system in California.”
The transformation is working. The most popular of CalAIM’s “Community Supports,” by far, is “medically tailored meals.” That program and a related offering send prepared meals or “tailored” grocery items to qualified Medi-Cal recipients’ homes.

Apologizing to her manicurist....
Medicaid was intended to provide medical care support for indigent citizens.
Now all kind of people are using it, even for food delivery and rent support!
And that’s while Medicaid is bankrupting our government!
Maybe cut CA from federal Medicaid help!
I am a registered voter, definitely elderly, & why don’t I get a deal like that?
Meanwhile, taxpayers bank accounts grow anemic.
The government never stops increasing it’s growth in TAKE and WASTE. Programs always get bigger and find more ways to throw tax payers money away as a justification to keep taking more.
I’m guessing that diabetes qualifies for “medically tailored” meals. That alone will weigh the program down. I’m guessing that, like many of our uninvited guests from south o’ the border, “Lupita” is about 5’4” and 350 lbs.
California is a very friendly state for the poor, there is a lot of catering to them.
As far back as 1969 or 70 I met blacks (young males) who were moving to California for the welfare.
The neverending fraud is why our medicare has gone to hell. The numbers show another 40% cut, just like last year. Some 75% since 2024.

A head of lettuce in Indiana was about $2.75 last week. This is very pricy but it’s about half of the going rate in the article.

I had some leg surgery and was walking on cane.
I was pretty much OK, when we decided to go to Southern CA for trip with family.
I was wondering if I should take the cane with me, as I was basically OK by that time.
I took it and it was great idea!
We got free beach parking, free premium parking in all amusement parks, the “fast pass” was also free to my whole family, an all kind of free stuff everywhere.
I calculated, that the $15 cane earned us almost $1000 benefits in Ca just in few days.
(But we had to pay outrageous gas prices, etc.)
When you go to CA, take a cane with you!
Government should only provide beans, rice, flour, milk. You want treats, or something better, then do like everyone else and step up. Make poverty uncomfortable again, otherwise you get more of it. Punish fraud to the full extent of the law, or you get more of it. Stop letting emotional people run bureaucracies.

How nice. The left’s obsession is taking money from the producers and giving it to parasites. The producers have no choice. If they resist the theft of their money they will be forced to confront agents and ultimately will lose.
