If College Is A Rape Culture, Why Are Women Lining Up To Attend?
American Thinker ^ | 10/27/2026 | Brian Joondeph

Posted on 10/27/2026 10:03:50 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

In the 2011 film Moneyball, Brad Pitt portrays Oakland Athletics general manager Billy Beane, who listens as his scouts enthusiastically praise an up-and-coming baseball player.

Beane, unimpressed, asks a simple question.

“If he’s a good hitter, why doesn’t he hit good?”

This question should be asked about America’s elite universities, particularly in light of the ongoing Cornell Seven controversy.

If these institutions are, as some describe them, bastions of rape culture, misogyny, and the institutional protection of sexual predators, why do so many young women desperately want to attend them? And why are their parents willing to spend or borrow as much as $100,000 annually to send their daughters into these allegedly dangerous environments?

The Cornell Seven controversy has sparked extensive publicity, protests, political brinksmanship, and accusations that Cornell and other elite universities perpetuate a culture of sexual violence.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, speaking in Ithaca in September, declared that “the culture of rape, sexual assault, and pedophilia is protected in elite institutions including Cornell University, and it has got to stop.”

That’s quite a sweeping indictment of America’s top schools.

In American Thinker, I recently reviewed the Cornell Seven allegations, the conflicting evidence, and the importance of due process. Those questions remain unresolved and continue to percolate, so I won’t revisit them here.

Instead, let’s consider something wider.

What do young women actually think about these supposedly dangerous institutions? Not what politicians or activists tell them to think, but what their choices reveal.

Follow the applicants’ walk, not the media’s talk.

Cornell is one of America’s most prestigious and selective universities.

In the 2025–26 admissions cycle, Cornell received more than 72,000 undergraduate applications and admitted 8.4 percent. Nearly 36,000 of those applicants were women.

Women also make up approximately 54 percent of Cornell’s undergraduate student body.

Think about the irony of that in light of AOC’s comments.

At a major university publicly condemned for perpetuating a culture of rape and sexual assault, women aren’t fleeing. Instead, they are applying in the tens of thousands, fiercely competing for admission, and enrolling in greater numbers than men.

And they’re paying through the nose for the privilege.

Cornell’s estimated annual cost of attendance is about $100,000, including tuition, housing, meals, and other expenses. That’s $400,000 over four years for students paying sticker price.

Why do they line up? Most women are whores. It’s that simple.

AI Overview

The “Bad Boy” Syndrome. From my upcoming book: “I Don’t Need ...The “bad boy syndrome” is a repeating romantic pattern where someone repeatedly chooses rebellious, emotionally unavailable, or troubled partners while ignoring stable, reliable alternatives.

Key Characteristics of a Bad Boy

Unpredictability: Erratic behavior keeps partners on edge and creates an intense cycle of emotional highs and lows.
Projected Confidence: Surface-level boldness, charisma, and dominance can look like strength or security.
Rule-Breaking: A distinct rejection of social norms, authority, and traditional expectations.
Emotional Detachment: Difficulty offering long-term commitment, empathy, or consistent emotional safety.

Why People Are Attracted to Bad Boys

Dopamine and Uncertainty: As discussed by psychologists on platforms like Psychology Today, intermittent reinforcement and unpredictable affection trigger strong brain pleasure responses, making the “chase” feel addictive.

The “Fixer” Mentality: Many partners harbor a deep desire to reform, rescue, or heal a troubled individual into a devoted companion.

Evolutionary and Cultural Roots: Traditional media romanticizes the antihero archetype, while evolutionary theories link risk-taking and dominance with ancient survival or protective traits.

Unresolved Patterns: According to community insights on Reddit, the dynamic is often driven by familiar childhood dynamics, low self-worth, or an underlying fear of vulnerable intimacy.

Breaking the Cycle

Recognize Personal Worth: Shift focus from rescuing others to demanding mutual kindness, respect, and emotional consistency.
Identify Triggers: Address underlying self-esteem issues or past trauma that make chaotic chemistry feel like “love”.
Choose Stability: Prioritize green flags like clear communication, reliability, and emotional safety over high-stress drama.

And they’re paying through the nose for the privilege.

Two possible explanations (there may be others):

1) The campus really is NOT a hotbed of rape and sexual abuse.
2) They're a bunch of sleazy sluts who WANT to be "raped".

Maybe because a degree from an Ivy League university can open doors.

This article drifts into “blame the victim” territory. I totally get that some women cry rape when that’s not the case. But I also get that rapists (monsters) do exist on college campuses, and everywhere else.

Identify the guilty. Then grind them into dust.

Still is the best place to get their MRS. degree

My macroecon professor (and faculty advisor for 3 semesters) would ask female students "Why did you come here to Gonzaga? You came here to get married, yes yes!"

Or "Miss Jones, what do you look for in a man? You look at his wallet, yes yes!"

The late, great Dr. Erwin Graue received his doctorate from Cornell in 1926. When I first met him in 1972, he was 77 and still teaching. His signature quote was "There are no free lunches!"

Helluva teacher, but he was brutal if you gave him the wrong answer in class. He exhorted me to change my major from Management to Public Accounting, never let up. He saw Management as a worthless major, and thought my math background could be put to better use.

I switched during my sophomore year, it was one of the best decisions I ever made.

For the past 50 years, the left has been preaching against traditional sexual morality, even sexualizing the school curricula in the lower grades. Entertainment is sexualized as never before, with near-naked women twerking and simulating sex on national TV. "Pride" month features lewd behavior being performed in front of cheering crowds that include young children. "Drag Queen Story Hours" have scantily clad men posing as women reading stories to young children as their moronic mothers beam with approval.

Now, the left is shocked - SHOCKED - that young college-aged men and women get drunk, take drugs, and have sex parties that spin out of control. No, lefty liars, we do not live in a "rape culture" - rape is against the law and is punished when proven in court. We live in a hedonistic culture that pushes things to the limit and where things sometimes spin out of control as people are caught up in a drunken, drugged fog, and the left has fostered this culture all along.

Colleges have sex weeks. A period of indoctrination in which the norms of morality that the students learned from their parents and church are trashed and the kids are encouraged to have a blast.

The party culture is encouraged-alcohol removes inhibitions.

When the female feels a pang of conscience she cries’rape’ to blame it all on him.

Hormones are raging...Only the place has changed...

Either you're at home or away...

In the old days...the barn was like the backseat of a '54 chevy.

Nothing has changed. The roaring hormones always win.

“Rape” has long ceased to mean what it originally meant — a man (typically) forcing himself on a woman, against her will. During the feminist movement of the late 60’s/early 70s the word was bastardized and its definition expanded with the intention of demonizing men. From then on anything could be rape, “sexual assault”, or whatever. You touched a woman inappropriately - that was “rape”. A woman changed her mind *after* sex or regretted doing so, that was rape. Everything was rape. Make no mistake. The sole purpose of the uglo-feminists of that era was to demonize men and punish them to the maximum extent possible. Too many weak men went along with it to the point that now it’s just accepted.
