New York’s Kathy Hochul ranked worst governor in US as part of scathing new study

Gov. Kathy Hochul was ranked the worst state leader in the US for protecting constituents’ freedoms, a scathing new study found.

Hochul ranked No. 50 in the Cato Institute’s 2026 “Freedom in the 50 States” list, scoring an “F” and falling behind the governors from Hawaii, California, Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

The annual study weighed the freedom of various state economic and personal policies — such as fiscal, housing, occupational, education, firearms, speech and medical — and graded each state a percentage out of 100 for how its local laws promoted freedoms for each.

This year’s study was the first to grade individual governors, and graded how their actions in office furthered or hampered their state’s freedoms.

Hochul scored a dismal 18.02% for how her policies promoted New Yorkers’ freedoms.

New York state, meanwhile, ranked 49th in the nation for overall freedoms with a 31.9% score — coming in just ahead of Hawaii at 29.24%.

Although the top and bottom of the gubernatorial freedom rankings largely skewed by party line, the results weren’t so red and blue.

Tough competition. You have the new Governor of Virginia rushing in her Communist agenda and Arizona’s moron stolen governor vetoing over 100 bills from the Republican Legislature not to mention the scumbags already listed.

“New York State is a failed relic of a bygone era”

Well, that’s a measurement of a very bad governor.

I considered her a bumbling substitute from the bench when NY got rid of Cuomo due to scandal. She wavered about Mamdani at first, then her political weathervane showed a strong gust toward pandering to Mamdani’s voters and to further winning.

I would like to nominate Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan. Was an abortion activist for years and then in Dem politics. During the Covid lockdowns she did the same thing Cuomo did but got little publicity (forcing sick people with Covid symptoms and contagious effects into elderly care places leading to deaths). And she ordered the Michigan State Police to patrol looking for people who left their homes to walk or drive outside (exceptions were abortion centers, package liquor stores and mosques-—church assemblies strictly prohibited.) Liquor stores were due to research showing sudden getting off drinking leads to violent domestic incidents. A State Police spokesman with disguised voice on the WJR superstation said: “We will not be looking for people going outside. Our officers have better ways to serve our people in this state.” He wasn’t caught.

Consider Abbystain scambugger the illicit virginia implant if you call it governor.
I cuss her every morning now the styrofoam free paper cup of coffee burns my hand, she is too stupid to be aware that she is.

That decay was set in motion before Hochul was even born.

"Hochul is actually a very bad governor."

She succeeded the other bad Governor Andrew Cuomo. NY ends up with the worst RAT Governors: Eliot Spitzer got caught paying for prostitutes. His Lt. Governor David Paterson took the seat when Spitzer resigned.

Paterson had his own issues. Besides sexual allegations, in February 2010, Paterson was accused of witness tampering in a domestic abuse case that a top advisor of his was involved in. State Police investigated allegations that Paterson had called the victim and tried to convince her to drop the case, which was dropped the day after his call. He wasn't charged with a crime for his witness tampering, but he withdrew his candidacy for a full-term run for Governor.

Besides that, in March 2010, the New York State Commission on Public Integrity asked Attorney General Andrew Cuomo to investigate allegations that Paterson had solicited an unlawful gift of free New York Yankees tickets. He also faced allegations that he had lied under oath to the Commission on Public Integrity in 2010 during an investigation about the Yankees tickets. On December 20, 2010, the Commission on Public Integrity found that Paterson had lied about accepting five free World Series tickets and fined him $62,125. Paterson left office in December 2010 after Cuomo was elected.

She’s a bad governor. I don’t know how much there is to discuss about it. New York political history. Ok.

Doesn’t change the fact that she’s a bad governor

I will say I like her opponent, though I don’t vote in the state of NY any longer

Blakeman from Nassau County.

“But she will probably get reelected.”

Given the voters in Moronica (AKA New York City) she probably will.

Born in Rochester, NY in 1947. I now live in Oneida County, which historically, is a Red County. I’ll be voting for Blakeman. I would love to see Blakeman blast Hochul out of office like Pataki did Mario Cuomo in 1994. I’ll also be voting for Anthony Constantino to represent the 21st district. He’ll be replacing Elise Stefanik.
