As a big fan of the book written by Steven Ambrose and the HBO Series "Band of Brothers" back in 2018 I went on a 2-week Band of Brothers Tour with Steven Ambrose Historical Tours, starting in Toccoa, GA and finishing in Berchtesgaden and Hitler's Eagle Nest, we spent 2-nights in Berchtesgaden and went up the mountain to the Eagle's Nest, today it's a cafe, beer garden and tourist attraction, it will be interesting to see what the motivation of the person who has burned it to the ground. Having been up the narrow one-lane road to the Eagle's Nest, it would be very difficult to get any firefighting equipment to the top, considering to road ends below the Eagle's Nest and you have to take an elevator up the actual house.

BTW, this happened today and here is another article from NBC News via Reuters.

The wanna-be Hitlers burn down the real Hitler’s retreat. How fitting.
Always fumigate in moderation!
Seriously, it’s been over 80 years. “Lest we forget,” eh? History is often regrettable, should we raze Versailles, or the Vatican? Or go there to contemplate human sinfulness and how to transcend the failings of the past.
Correct. This is an attack on Western Civilization, as exemplified by a highly advanced white society. We are past the turning point in Europe, demographically and politically, and it has fallen to the muslims and communists.
Well put.
the motivation is the same as the one to take down all statues of Confederate generals
the difference is that this was a historic site, not an after the fact commemoration.
Never again doesn’t mean “never”, “ never”. Erase history is a thing apparently.
Interesting place. I was there twice in the 70’s and 80’s. Both times the pictures I took from there did not develop. All other pictures at different places in Bavaria came out just fine.
Is this place filmed for ‘ where eagles dare’ movie
It would make a wonderful place to build a mosque.
This ought to be the last place Christians or Jews would build anything.
I’m sure they’ll blame the Communists. 🙄
I WONDER HOW HITLER WOULD HAVE HANDLED THE MUSLIM ISSUES?
I’d rather that this fire had not happened. But I won’t be losing much sleep over the “loss”. As was noted elsewhere, many historical sites have a mixed history. But not this one. The spectacular mountain views aside, the Eagle’s Nest is connected to Hitler entirely, and so is an entirely evil place.
More info might prove me wrong. But I doubt if a Muslim is involved here. Most Muslims think Hitler was a swell guy. I’d bet on either a crazy person or someone who simply thinks that Hitler wasn’t such a swell guy.
“ WONDER HOW HITLER WOULD HAVE HANDLED THE MUSLIM ISSUES?”
He loved Islam as he considered it compatible with fascism and a “warrior people”, while he considered free market capitalism and Christianity as “Jewish trash” unfit for Germany.
He repeatedly wrote praises about Islam, and bemoaned the Ottomans being turned back at Vienna.
There’s a creepy compound in my town (Ruidoso) right next to the big auto parts/hardware store and a local supermarket (used to be Thriftway, but they changed the name and I can never remember it).
It’s called “Eagles Neat” with a big arc sign over the gate.
Our local meth head/Aryan National criminal types hang out there.
I was hoping our big flood would take it out, but it’s just above the turn in the river.
“This is an attack on Western Civilization, as exemplified by a highly advanced white society.”
The people who built the Eagle’s Nest cheered as the loaded millions of people into boxcars and shipped them off the internment camps to be exterminated.
I would not call that highly advanced.
I agree with your post. Germany’s Kaiser Wilhelm II was not such a bad guy. He just got caught up in the insane run-up to WW1.
But Hitler was entirely a bad guy. Nothing about him or his ideas were “advanced”. Keep the historical record. There are lessons to be learned there. But anything that he was personally associated with, any sort of shrine…
Erase it from the Earth. Yeah, I’d be okay with that.
