‘Super-drug’ 10 times stronger than fentanyl linked to deaths across multiple states (cychlorphine)

A powerful new synthetic opioid said to be more potent than fentanyl has been linked to dozens of recent deaths in the U.S., prompting warnings from health officials.

Tennessee was an early hotspot, with the state’s health department announcing in March that more than 30 fatal overdoses had been associated with cychlorphine since October 2025.

An April 2026 notice from the White House’s Office of National Drug Control Policy cited at least 41 Tennessee deaths between July 2025 and February 2026 and at least 55 deaths nationally.

Fatal overdoses have also been reported in Illinois, California and Oklahoma, according to public health and law enforcement records.

"Cychlorphine is particularly dangerous due to its strength, where a very small amount can cause someone to stop breathing," the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health said in its advisory.

Nicholas Kardaras, Ph.D., CEO and chief clinical officer of the New York Center for Living in Manhattan and a clinical professor at Stony Brook Medicine’s School of Social Welfare, called cychlorphine "the new fentanyl on steroids."

Darwinism.
We will either run out of people who do drugs or we are heading for nation wide repentance.

I have been reading the papers and watching the news since the 1980s and since then, a new “super drug” has been announced every couple of years. Its the most tried and true media story about drug use for the last 50 years. At one point, crack was the super drug. At one point, ecstasy was the super drug. Given the past super drug stories, you’d think at this point, all you have to do is look at the drug and you’d die. I’m not saying this to joke about the seriousness of drug potency or use. Its just these media stories have followed the same template for decades.

I don’t disapprove.

The sooner we can dispose of the users, the better we’ll be as a nation.

Now, if that super-AIDS bug would just catch up.

I guess the drugs are America’s version of Medical Assistance In Dying.

I was just commenting the exact same thing to my husband. I’m so tired of these b.s. warnings. Governmental click-bait. Remember when Quaaludes was the drug that was going to kill off the population? Then, cocaine. Then, speedballs, etc etc. It’s like the ubiquitous annual melanoma and summertime warnings, the we’re all going to die in a burned down house if we use live Christmas trees. Don’t forget the razor blades hidden in apples, etc. UGH! If it’s not the Feds, it’s the State’s borrowing the Fed’s script for the fear mongering substance of the year or season.

And, of course, the health warnings about the food that you eat every day too. Remember the “heart attack on a plate” scare articles? Or how eggs have gone from good to bad to good to bad a million times? People just start tuning out. Its why I don’t watch the news anymore.

As others have said on other threads — this sort of drug seems like an obvious choice for state-sanctioned executions.

I do not understand the marketing philosophy of the cartel distributing drugs that can kill you.
It is a one time sale.

You would think they would want to get the user addicted so that they keep coming back for that return high.
Not, take it once and you die.
They are going to run out of customers real quick!

I don’t think it is the cartel, but a lot of boutique competitors.

purity of cocaine has gone up and price is down. they are trying to attract new customers.

I’m waiting for the NEW new drug that’s 10,000x as powerful as this one, and if you even LOOK at it you overdose.

I’m tired of these stories. We seem to get one every 6 months or so. As someone else said Darwinism.

A junkie can die from one pill on the streets of Seattle but the state can’t kill a murderer with a gallon of drugs on a gurney.

I think there is an unending stream of these drug users so the drug pushers aren’t worried about losing their client base.

Homelessness has increased and there are a lot of drug abusers in that population - with many dying on the street.

In 2024, in San Francisco:

“752 total drug overdose deaths in the city, with one-third of those victims listed as having no fixed address.”

“According to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health...an average of more than six deaths per day of homeless, linked to drug overdoses, specifically fentanyl.”

I think that is one way the city admin is dealing with homelessness.

Wikipedia *used* to have a multiple list of “Equianalgesics” analgesic pain relievers, with pure oral morphine as the baseline of “1.0”. Far above morphine, at about “50.0” was Fentanyl. Just a year or two ago, there were about 30 or so drugs stronger than that.

Now there are well over 200 stronger than Fentanyl. It was very hard to keep up, so Wikipedia just gave up. Their revised Equianalgesic page is just a shadow of its former self.

On the plus side, there are some early federal efforts to re-designate these extremely strong drugs as “Weapons of Mass Destruction”, like chemical weapons. Just tiny amounts will kill an adult human.

I believe August or September was the first month in years that Manchester, NH did NOT have a death by drug overdose.

Of course, every cop and EMT carries NARCAN. So, that has cut down on the deaths. They announced it like it was a big deal. I looked at it from more of a sarcastic viewpoint. I just figured all the junkies must have finally killed themselves. Nobody left to OD.
