Guess what? You HAVE lived long enough to see an actual flying car.
Amazing times indeed.

I saw it on the 6:30 news.
Quite impressive.
However, I suspect the mileage sucks.
It’s a shame that he never got the credit he deserved.
I’d say that probably a quarter of drivers ought not even be on four wheels. Rocket cars are a non-starter.
That’s on the good side. By my chronometer, Soylent Green should be next, followed by apes evolving from men.
Exactly! Half of the drivers out there are below average.
Is Geico going to raise my rates over this feature?
Blasted up with smoke or something - it never rotated up and flew around ...
It’s not quite a flying car. More of a jumping car. It uses compressed air. The real purpose is high speed. If you get a car that can go 200MPH or 0-60 in under 1 second, the frame will act as a wing and cause lift. The car can, in theory, flip. Or roll in a tight turn. So the purpose of these air valve jets is to push the car down and prevent lift or rollover. And yes, I suppose it can also jump.
In reality this car has to real-world practical reason to exist. It is very cool. And I could see a scenario - depending on how far it can actually jump and fly vertically - where you can avoid a collision using automation. The car realizes it won’t stop in time to crash so it jumps over the obstacle(s). But it’s not really a “flying car” in the sense that a personal drone could be. Might be great for drag racing, F1 or even Nascar - if they would allow the technology - to prevent crashes and flips and rollovers.
No price tag as of yet. $255,000 down payment required just to get in line for one.
Eh. It ran up the HotWheels half loop and let go and then righted itself with propulsive blasts. How was it that it actually flew? All I saw was VSTOL at best.
Yes, it’s a non-starter even if it was really a reasonably useable flying car.
The control of 3-D space with no other guides in open air would be an absolute nightmare.
Will a pilot’s license be required?
What will it be like when all the undisciplined, irresponsible drivers suddenly are given another dimension to be reckless in?
Great for avoiding an accident! What I don’t know is if the car will automatically turn on the thrusters or does the driver have to have fast reflexes and the presence of mind to turn on the thrusters.
I don’t understand how a car can stop upside down on that ramp. Does it have some kind of suction mechanism?
Was there a brave person behind the wheel in those cars?
After the awe, so many questions.
I didn’t see it fly. I saw it fall and land though.

It’s far more likely to cause crashes when some ass decides the car in front is driving too slow and decides to play leap frog landing on another car.
B.... S.... !!!!!
Many here watched the Bob Cummings show in 1961 and 1962 where he would use a 1949 flying Aerocar.
Here is is in the opening credits showing it.

Here is the Aerocar.

Was it intentional?
Maybe it was like the guys who won the reward from the oil company for putting out the oil fire no one else could, like they said when asked what they would do with the money, they said “well, the first thing is we’re going to fix those damn truck brakes”.
