As Jake Lloyd remains focused on his mental health, he made a rare social media appearance to thank Star Wars fans for their continued support.
The 37-year-old joined Daniel Logan, an actor who portrayed Boba Fett in the 2002 prequel Attack of the Clones, in a pair of Instagram videos documenting their recent reunion. Lloyd, who experienced a “full-blown psychotic break” in 2023, waved to the camera and introduced himself.
Logan spoke first, saying, “We want to send a special message to each and every one of our Star Wars fans to let you know ‘thank you so much.’”
“Very, very much so,” agreed the Anakin Skywalker actor, dressed in a Sonic the Hedgehog shirt and wearing a rosary around his neck. “I really appreciate your time.”
In a follow-up video posted on Thursday, the two friends, thinking they’re posing for a photo, are goofing around with their arms and legs draped over each other.
Logan explained in the caption how he and Lloyd, the star of 1999’s Episode 1 – The Phantom Menace, bonded over their shared negative experiences as young actors in the prequel blockbusters.
Growing up with Star Wars since childhood, “we’ve been projected to bullying from adults name calling online and in person,” the New Zealand-born actor revealed. “[To] be honest the limelight has been hard for both of us as kids.”
Logan continued, seemingly addressing reactions to his previous video with Lloyd.
“I’ve only brought positivity to this franchise and I’m trying to bring Jake back to the SW universe only [to] get backlash,” he wrote. “I don’t think there’s anything we can do as actors in Star Wars, where there won’t be a single person that has something negative to say and now because of Starwars we are projected to hate and negativity for the rest of our lives.”
Acknowledging it “comes with the territory” of fame, Logan concluded that as kids, he and Lloyd had “no idea what that truly means"
At the age of 10, Lloyd shot to fame with his portrayal of Anakin Skywalker in the first Star Wars prequel. Within two years, he had retired from acting altogether. As a teen, he was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia.
Lloyd made headlines as a young adult in 2015 when he was arrested after leading police on a high-speed chase in South Carolina. Last year, following his 2023 psychotic break, Lloyd announced he had completed an 18-month stay at an inpatient mental health facility and was feeling “pretty good.”
“I can now accept taking on continued treatment and therapy and my meds,” he said at the time, while living at a rehabilitation facility that allows him to come and go as he pleases. “Everyone’s been very supportive.”

poor guy. Prayers for his recovery
Anytime I see someone wearing a Rosary as a necklace, I question that individual’s motives. Rosaries are not necklaces.
That being said, I loved these prequels, thought the kids did an exemplary job at their roles, and I’m sad that child actors are being exploited and subject to this. They deserve better for entertaining us.
"full-blown psychotic break"
Jake Lloyd's Mom Speaks About it( scroll down), his sister Madison died in 2018
The thing is - we don’t know if he is wearing it as a necklace or if he really believes.
i’d like to give him the benefit of the doubt and hope that he gets better
To those two, I say BRAVO!
Through the “break of hell”, to see yourself, and to take a deep breath, and say,”I’m feeling good”, is a major thing. (btdt!).
To the readers: Is that, truly, “a rosary”?
If, that’s his ‘hook” to hang his troubles upon, and it helps, I will keep my peace.
No, it’s not a necklace… but my thought is that he’s wearing it so he doesn’t put it down somewhere and lose it.
That, to me, looks more like… his life-line.
I hope he recovers fully.
Sorry for him and wish him well. First I’ve heard about this but I am far from SW fandom these days. No idea why some would attack a child actor who eventually grew up but the crazies are out there. By all rights I should be miffed at what Mark Hamill has become but he never even crosses my mind these days as well as the rest of the SW gang.
Really? You have a kid that developed schizophrenia as a teen and just came out of the mental hospital 18 months after a full blown psychotic breakdown, he’s on medication, and you’re worried about his motives for wearing a crucifix?
He’s severely mentally ill, only God and his councilors know his motives for anything.
I’m glad you liked the prequels. I ended up loving his movie, The Phantom Menace. It was my daughter’s first Star Wars film and seeing her amazed look was one of the great experiences of life.
It introduced a host of great characters, the kid was endearing and it featured the best light sabre fight.
Sad how some people came to hate on the kid in the movie, and that he had a breakdown. Still it was a great hit.
Jake Lloyd was diagnosed in 2008 with paranoid schizophrenia, which runs in his father’s family. It is a terrible disease that is mostly treated by sedating and usually institutionalizing or otherwise confining those who are afflicted.
That describes my best friend's brother who developed schizophrenia in his early 30's, maybe sooner.
They think they've recovered, only to go off into their fantasy world again when off their meds.
It's a horrible, horrible disease.
I live in S.E. Michigan and the brother lived 300 miles away in northern Michigan.
One Thursday he showed up at my door, asking if he could spend the night since he had an appointment with the French embassy in downtown Detroit the next morning.......And the reason was even more bizarre.
I agree with you somewhat, but I never blame a child who cannot act for a poor product. That is entirely on the casting director, producer, and all the other adults in the room.
has the word projected replaced the word subjected? I see it used twice in their quotes.
Exactly! The nuns taught us rosaries are not jewelry, keep them in your pocket.
My comment was irrespective of his mental state. I’ve spent too long seeing youth wear rosaries as necklaces without truly understanding the power of the rosary, and I’ve endeavored to speak to them and try to reach them to understand. You wear a chain with a cross on your neck. The rosary goes around your hand or at your waist and is meant for prayer.
If the rosary is truly his lifeline, may God grant him peace and tranquility in the power of the Virgin Mother, regardless of where he chooses to wear it.
I don’t understand the fanbase who go absolutely bonkers over artistic license. The Star Wars canon is arguably “loose,” and we can see since Disney took it over that they’ve gone way off script to the chagrin of George Lucas.
Same goes for franchises like The Lord of the Rings. Tolkien’s epic is a well established narrative, and I believe Peter Jackson paid it exceptional homage; but I’ve too often heard people lambaste him for minor inconsistencies in the filming that, in my opinion, make no difference to the end goal of the story.
Then there’s C.S. Lewis’ Narnia series which was done right in the original three theatrical releases while the new series run by Amazon looks like a complete dumpster fire. Lewis is rolling in his grave, and his family should be ashamed for releasing the licenses for that adaptation, IMO.
There's no question that the purpose of a rosary is to pray with it, and no one knowing that should reduce it to a piece of jewelry. The one Jake is wearing doesn't even qualify as jewelry, as it looks like one of those extremely cheap plastic ones people freely give away.
We have no idea why he is wearing one as a necklace because he doesn't say and we're not mind readers (although a few people here on FR often act like they are 🙂). I say if he is not treating it in a sacrilegious manner and it gives his tortured soul comfort, it seems to me Jesus and the Blessed Mother would be OK with it and I'd give him the benefit of the doubt. If it hasn't already, perhaps it will help lead him to Christ.
Agreed. If it gives him comfort, that’s fine. It’s definitely one of the cheaper plastic ones, but it’s still prayer worthy.
If anything, I see someone wearing it, they either identify as Christian or are prayerful. My hope for Jake is that the power of Christ helps to heal him.
Very true. My point was that it is not jewelry quality, the type someone typically might wear as a fashion accessory (like, for example, the singer Madonna) or to show off.
