The e-commerce giant just dropped what it’s calling Amazon’s About You — essentially a showcase of your personality based on previous purchases, conversations with Alexa for shopping, any written product reviews and more.
Technically, the retailer has been offering personalized shopping recs for years, using algorithms to push products it thinks you will like. Today, it does the same thing but on a bigger scale.
This time, the popular commerce site has created an editable section for shoppers — which some folks are calling a personal dossier — where all of your habits and likes are displayed for you. The move is supposed to offer an even more comprehensive list of recommendations based on you.
While the online retail behemoth said these lists can be changed and edited based on what your current preferences are to make more accurate suggestions — users are racing to check out what its original compilation thinks of them.
To check yours out, it just takes a few clicks and can be found in the app, mobile web, and desktop.
On mobile, head to the Me tab, click on your name, and tap About You. On desktop, hover over your name above Account & Lists at the top right — you can either click your name or Who’s shopping? Select a profile.
Then click on About You

Big Tech is Big Brother.
Now that you’ve got the picture
What you going to do?
Try the new and improved “Bubble Butt Pump”...CALL NOW! 1-800-FLATASS.
I’m ordering more stuff. I still have a little space in my garage.
I'm not sure what Ms. Flatbutt was buying but it appears to be on her.
I just read mine and it is pretty flattering,
Classical literature, patriotic displays, Prefers spicy, bold flavors in food, Values weather-resistant outdoor gear, Performs home electrical work, Prioritizes emergency preparedness products, Actively maintains a garden, etc. etc.
</grin>
Hah! You’re an obvious “Enemy of the State” ... ChatGPBigBrother has scheduled you for elimination.
It was the prepper thing, I’m just glad they didn’t mention holsters and such.
By the way, I do have 25,616 Amazon Kindle books, they could build a wild profile off of that.
A generic amalgam of things your profile purchased. BFD.
That’s always been there for everyone from your local supermarket “rewards” to … don’t ask what the big corporation amalgams know who own media companies and credit companies and work with banks.
One could be pleased that some fledgling attempt at transparency is happening where you can see its parameters. I see “remove” and “update” so have fun tuning your profiles…
Or turn into the skid. Learn its limitations, and there are many, and learn what it can and cannot do.
This is fact: Agents do not have volition. It can’t be inherited or generated. They have a system prompt that is put there by humans that determines what it can and cannot do, or what it can do only with permission.
If an agent recruits other agents, it means that the agent was built to do that on purpose. It acts only when prompted to act.
So when you read this fear garbage, there is always a human behind the controls. Always.
Edit it. I added some ridiculous things to my profile. The sillier and more outlandish the better.
I read my Amazon About You page. It said I like to read historical non-fiction books and watch classic movies which is true.
That is THE defining question of our time.
It draws really wrong conclusions. It thinks I have an infant (I’ve bought baby things for friends) and a swimming pool (I have no idea why.)
you have can remove descriptions from each category - may be several items to remove in each section, but, eventually, nothing will remain, and the page will ask you to create one.
