California Dems pass new law requiring booster seats for Children up to 16
September 30, 2026 | Kevin Coachc Collins

In a cynical effort to look busy and fool their imbecilic base into thinking they are working for them, the Democrat/communist/Muslim coalition running California out of existence has surpassed itself for producing busy work.

California is putting teenagers as old as 15 through a state-mandated seat-belt fit test—and those who fail it will have to remain in a child restraint such as a booster seat. The new rule takes effect January 1, 2027. It applies to children ages 8 through 15, meaning it reaches right up to a teenager’s 16th birthday. The law stops short of ordering every 15-year-old into a booster. Teenagers who pass all five steps may use an adult belt, while those who miss even one step will need a child restraint. The story exploded across social media Saturday as Californians compared Sacramento’s latest mandate with the state’s much larger public crises.

I still have a few old ones sitting on top of the liquor cabinet. They’ve been sitting up there for decades. Want one? ;^)

Yeah, keep an 8 to 12 year old kid in their seat.

Not to mention, try to keep a kid upright in their seat.

I have seen kids as old a 10 fall asleep in the car within minutes of the car leaving the driveway.

Something about the motion of a car puts them to sleep.

I had a cousin that would fall asleep on the back of his dad's motorcycle. Somehow he stayed on.

ok, how many in the legislature have been lobbied by, or own stock in, car seat manufacturers?

How absurd. There’s no way they can prove this has any material benefit.

Will a booster seat, even if nobody is sitting in it, impede a person who needs to get out of a vehicle quickly, or hinder emergency personnel from getting a person out of a vehicle?

These are people who want to bubble-wrap the whole world. Next they’ll start mandating 4-point or even 5-point harnesses.

They passed one in OR about 15 years ago that mandated anyone under 4’8 or so.
My buddy’s wife was under the height limit.
I just had to ask if she had a booster seat.

Teenagers? You think you would have problems getting compliance from your teens, imagine the parent of gangbangers and drug dealers.

Like most of California’s nanny state laws, compliance (and the heavy fines for non-compliance) will only be enforced among white people.

Shaniqua, who drives without a license, auto insurance, or even plates on her car, and with her toddler sitting unsecured on her lap has nothing to worry about.

My white 15-y/o son is going to need a booster seat though, or I’ll get a $500 fine.

And California loves fining white people. We pay them and they really need the money!

They aren't being stupid or looney. Just clumsey.

My best guess is that this entire law is a gift to the trial lawyers, as it sets up some pricey tort cases. (Nobody will actually obey all of the provisions this law, young persons will not stand for it.)

In a serious car accident a booster seat is a death trap.

Good God, I grew up in the late fifties and early sixties. My dad had, at one time, a ‘57 Bel Air, a ‘56 Dodge pick-up and a ‘69 Ford Country Squire station wagon.

There were no such things as ‘’booster seats’’ for kids in those days and yet we survived.

Now we’re a nation of ‘’Chicken Littles’’.

It’s quite possible my late grandmother couldn’t pass this ... and I would have LOVED to see anyone try to put her in a restraint.

We used to crawl up onto the deck above the rear seats on our big 1959 Ford Fairlane.

My parents didn’t have cars with seatbelts until I was 10. Stood in a crib in the back of the Corvair until I was 3. I can’t imagine trying to get a teen into a booster seat.

Heck, I didn't have seatbelts until I installed them in my car myself when I was 19. As a kid in the '50s, I remember my brother and I flying around inside my Mother's Nash Rambler when another car hit us. Only race cars had seatbelts back then.
