House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) told a local television news station in Shreveport, Louisiana, this week that President Donald Trump needs to bring the war in Iran “to a resolution.”
“It’s been a priority and an objective of every administration, for nearly 50 years, to ensure that Iran didn’t have a nuclear capability. Now that’s done. Operation Epic Fury was an epic success,” Johnson said dutifully, later adding:
The world is safer because of it. But now we’ve got to bring that to a resolution. And the Strait of Hormuz not being open affects commerce. It directly affects gas prices and fuel prices. And also you know the price of groceries, for example, because they got to be transported, and the higher fuel prices are a factor in that as well.
Now, all that said, we acknowledge it. We got a lot of work to do. I think as soon as the Strait of Hormuz is reopened, and I think we’re entering a new phase of that very soon, then the president’s right. Gas prices come back down.
Punchbowl’s Jake Sherman, who first reported on the comments, noted of the speaker’s remarks, “This is in line with what other Republicans are saying that it’s time for the Iran war to end.” Congressional Republicans are facing growing indications from pollsters of a possible November wipeout as high gas prices and the soaring cost of living turn voters toward the Democrats.
Johnson has previously broken with the president on the war and urged him to “wrap it up.”
“And I know this administration is working around the clock to resolve that in a way so they don’t suffer any more troop losses. This is a great tragedy — it shouldn’t happen. But it is a very important objective, one that I believe we’ve achieved, to ensure that the largest state sponsor of terrorism does not have a nuclear weapon. That would be a disaster for everybody, and everybody around the world understands that,” Johnson said in a July presser, adding, “Now we’ve got to wrap it up.”
Because retreats from Korea, Vietnam and Afghanistan worked so well.

Once again the title has little to do with the article...Johnson did not call for Trump to get put of Iran, as the title states...

I’m 5’8” and I think short people suck.

Everyone seems to think Trump can end the war overnight.
But the only way he could do that is by completely obliterating Iran, which would be morally wrong.
His other option is to withdraw US military assets from the region, but while that would end “Trump’s war”, it would not end the real war - the war Iran has been waging for half a century. Leaving would only ensure that war will never end.
What Johnson fails to understand is that President Trump did not start a war with Iran - what he’s doing is ending a war that has been raging for fifty years.
Trump should come out and say “Ive been told that in order for us to have a chance in the midterms I have to end the war(By the way, what war, NO shots are being fired by US) that I have to allow Iran to have a nuke and control the Strait forever..and to that I say they can go F themselves..I still have some damn dignity left, if they want to throw me out of office, go ahead but I am NOT going to allow Iran to have a nuke, not on my watch, if they want to do it they can go right ahead but I wont”

Americans have become the softest people in the world. So what if it costs another $40 to fill the tank if you can stop Iran.
The Repubs are Iran’s greatest hope. And they know it.
Now is no time to go wobbly in the knees.
We should have stopped Iran back when the war first started, why they stopped I have absolutely NO idea, we could have been over and done with them whatever happens happens, but NO we had to stop..why, I wish someone in this Administration would answer that! And why wasnt the main regime members killed, the ones you see on TV, Israel wanted to kill all of them but Trump told them NO, let some live
Other than parking an aircraft carrier group off the gulf, what is this war really costing us? Our lack of energy production worldwide is being exposed completely and is not going away once Iran is settled.
Nobody in this administration (or any other, for that matter) has ever made a clear case to convince Americans that they have any confidence in the effectiveness of these idiotic military campaigns in achieving the goals they established in the first place.
Trump should proceed to destroy what remains of Iran's regime and help the civilian's new government rebuild infrastructure later. More votes would be won with decisive action than standing still while the enemy reorganizes, re-arms, continues pot-shotting our Middle-East military installations and slaughters more of their own population.
It's actually crueler to wait than finish the bastards off. Finishing the job would also free up forces to resume countering our other foes.
You’re looking at this the wrong way and presenting a false dilemma here.
It’s not a question of whether Americans are willing to accept A to achieve B. It’s a question of whether they have any confidence at all in their government to achieve the unknown B (an Iran that poses no existential threat to them in the future) in exchange for a known, certain A (high fuel prices and their ongoing inflationary impact) that affects them NOW.
And before you answer that, just keep in mind that anyone with half a brain knows that their government (and this administration in particular) has been lying their asses off about this stupid war since the start.
So … no, you have no credibility to make any such wild, unsupported assertion like that now.
They are beefing up with big goals.
