House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) told a local television news station in Shreveport, Louisiana, this week that President Donald Trump needs to bring the war in Iran “to a resolution.”
“It’s been a priority and an objective of every administration, for nearly 50 years, to ensure that Iran didn’t have a nuclear capability. Now that’s done. Operation Epic Fury was an epic success,” Johnson said dutifully, later adding:
The world is safer because of it. But now we’ve got to bring that to a resolution. And the Strait of Hormuz not being open affects commerce. It directly affects gas prices and fuel prices. And also you know the price of groceries, for example, because they got to be transported, and the higher fuel prices are a factor in that as well.
Now, all that said, we acknowledge it. We got a lot of work to do. I think as soon as the Strait of Hormuz is reopened, and I think we’re entering a new phase of that very soon, then the president’s right. Gas prices come back down.
Punchbowl’s Jake Sherman, who first reported on the comments, noted of the speaker’s remarks, “This is in line with what other Republicans are saying that it’s time for the Iran war to end.” Congressional Republicans are facing growing indications from pollsters of a possible November wipeout as high gas prices and the soaring cost of living turn voters toward the Democrats.
Johnson has previously broken with the president on the war and urged him to “wrap it up.”
“And I know this administration is working around the clock to resolve that in a way so they don’t suffer any more troop losses. This is a great tragedy — it shouldn’t happen. But it is a very important objective, one that I believe we’ve achieved, to ensure that the largest state sponsor of terrorism does not have a nuclear weapon. That would be a disaster for everybody, and everybody around the world understands that,” Johnson said in a July presser, adding, “Now we’ve got to wrap it up.”
Johnson and all the other weakling Republicans would have signed an agreement with King George in 1777.
The President has 3 months to do whatever it takes to finish Iran. November to January.
They might’ve, if General George Washington had told them the Continentals had already won.
This tells me Congressional Republicans are feckless cowards that don’t give a whit about the essential security interests of the US.

Bravo! And the job is not finished. Iran is still a threat to the world and capable of supplying arms to it’s terrorist groups along with working toward a nuclear bomb and a hypersonic missile with a 12K kilo range able to hit the conus. This is not like Vietnam, Afghanistan, or Korea where we backed out in action for that region. We are fighting for our safety and security here. And if Iran is allowed to control the straits cutting off neighboring countries, the west, and the EU, you will see WW III. There is no alternative but to fold up on Iran for everyone else if we bail. Just that simple.

US surrender and withdraw. Leaving the entirety of the Arabian peninsula and Middle East to the IRGC.

Inflation happens because of the expansion of the money supply. It is a very clever hidden tax. Rather than raise taxes in an obvious way the Government merely creates more money to buy things. It takes awhile for that to reach equilibrium through the markets so the first ones at the spigot are the big winners . It is also one of reasons why the division between rich and poor widens. The poor get almost none of the benefits of this extra printed money, but they do get to pay more for the same stuff!

And Trump and Bibi need to immediately announce that imminent destruction of the IRGC will be followed immediately by temporary allied control of Iran pending the establishment of a new federal constitution and an Iranian governing regime the operation of which will be based on its provisions.

True, which confirms is that despite all of the many issues of grave importance to all Americans and America’s allies around the world, including the existential threat posed by Iranian lunatics and mass murderers, there are millions of voters so ignorant that their voting decision is solely based on having to pay a few dollars more to gas up their vehicle.

Can’t say you are wrong...But even if the House defunds military operations, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Trump attempt some extremely innovative workarounds. And Impeachment and trial could drag on for a significant amount of time.
Trump should withdraw until after the elections. During the pause, our spy satellites can record all of their military activity for our next round of destruction.

Sure Johnson ... let’s just leave Iran alone and let them develop their nukes and ICBMs and when they shoot a nuke up your ass ... don’t forget to blame Trump for it ... instead of all the previous Presidents, both R & D, that refused to solve that problem.
