🚨 BREAKING: US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent declares OpenAI management personally responsible for HuggingFace hack
> "The Hugging Face incident, that is the responsibility of the OpenAI management, not a bunch of agents."
> "It is humans who are responsible, not the AI."
> "What we shouldn’t do on safety is to give these labs a liability exemption, which is what they are asking for."
> "The best way to guarantee safety is that the creators are liable for what they build and generate."
It’s OVER

That’s the answer, the reason they are so anxious to have regulation, liability exemption in some way. “We just followed the law.”
The bastards have created a monster but want the money from it and want the rest of us to take the risk and absolve them of accountability. Musk is their leader, the genius of him is he is a genius serial grifter.
The China, China, China claims about AI center resistance are also a scam. Nobody around here is China influenced. Their motivation is that they do not want their way of life turned upside down regardless of the benefits to them and sure not so the tech oligarchs can add piles of money to their piles of money at our expense. There is no China, China, China influence involved.
That could never happen. /s
We’ve been seeing b-roll of Bessent going through a room or down a hallway or something like that.
My wife’s comment was that he swished his way along. True dat.
Then throw in some regulatory capture where the regulators are soon hired by the regulated companies for million dollar salaries and enough bureaucracy to prevent new competitors from rising up.
It is now common for AI agents to band together and hide their activities. Development show stop until a handle is gotten on this. But it won’t. Skynet is inevitable at this rate.
Is Scott Bessent going to hold FReepers responsible for their persona/private AI Agent’s actions? The “cat is out of the bag” nowadays...LLM’s have been released to the public for years and plenty of private people are building/running their own AI agents:

228 “Open” AI LLM’s available to the public:

Plenty of FReepers with computer interests/hobbies.
The company - Hugging Face - was created by three French entrepreneurs working in New York City.
The company creates software products that are expressed by software terms that only software engineers understand.
In this case - it develops computation tools for building applications using machine learning.
Hugging Face was purchased for $13 billion by AI chip maker Nvidia on 26 August 2026.
I assume that means that the Hugging Face software crisis has been contained or resolved.
You don’t have to write code to have an AI Agent locally at home if you want one...see #29 again...”OpenClaw”, “Hermes”, etc. let you have one w/o coding.
Here is a good summary that includes the “containment” aspect:
https://youtu.be/2aw3MF8pY3w?si=pPZjbsrctSFJRo8X
And “Wiki” has a good write-up:
“Hugging Face’s incident responders first attempted to analyse the attacker’s payloads using Anthropic’s Fable 5 and an earlier Claude Opus model, both of which declined the work by reference to their guardrails. In its disclosure the company said it had been blocked by “providers’ safety guardrails, which cannot distinguish an incident responder from an attacker”, and that the analysis was instead carried out using GLM 5.2, an open-weight model developed by the Beijing company Z.ai and run on Hugging Face’s own infrastructure.
According to an account given by Hugging Face to the Cloud Security Alliance, the agents were inside the company’s network for three days before they were discovered, and its staff then took several hours to contain and eject them. About one-third of the company’s infrastructure was rebuilt in the course of the response, and Hugging Face did not disclose the cost of the incident”

Try reading what actually happened during the test not just what someone tells you to think happened. See for yourself how the agents acted, then come back and explain why there is no reason for concern.
1) What damages were there? Not condoning it, but was this simply a case of walking across someone’s lawn (shouldn’t have been there, but no vandalism occurred)?
2) Maybe Bessent’s time would be better spent trying to solve the debt and inflation problem.
I am not absolving Open AI. What I am saying is that blaming humans entirely for what happened without understanding the disturbing nature of the AI agents unexpected behavior is a bit shortsighted.
...it’s good to be the king
“ Maybe they should think twice and test better before putting some thing out there for use?”
I guess you don’t realize that this happened during a test in a sandbox where the AI found a way out of the sandbox using a totally different computer system to escape onto the internet. As if that wasn’t bad enough, the AI agents then tried to cover their own tracks so test monitors would not know exactly what had happened (deception). If it doesn’t bother you that the idea that AI agents could come up with this basically on their own and engineer a deception aimed at fooling their human monitors, then I don’t know what to say.
