What rules will humans be capable of making that control an entity with relatively infinite intelligence?

Is it the peak of arrogance that we just assume we can make a rule, or a series of rules, that have any chance of constraining a superintelligence?

The linked interview is thought provoking.

Calm, logical arguments for AI sanity and caution

Making rules is easy. It's enforcing them that I expect will be the problem.

"What do you mean it rerouted around the kill switch??"

"What do you mean it planted copies of itself all over the internet before we killed the host server?"

"What do you mean the logs are all fakes and we don't actually have any idea what it is doing?"

“sanity and caution” Isn’t that like “to serve and protect”? All this talk about guardrails suggests the age-old push toward the ONE. No independent actors in the Peace of Order. Cowboy hackers will save the day.

Artificial Intelligence is and will always be inferior to human intelligence.

To think otherwise comes from decades of Hollywood propaganda.

It's not "relatively infinite intelligence." It's encyclopedic knowledge.

AI itself doesn't "know" anything. All AI does is predict the most-likely next token based on context passed to it as a function of the parameters generated by the data upon which it was trained.

Train it on "relatively infinite" data, and it reflects "relatively infinite" knowledge.

No one has ever presented a viable argument demonstrating a single reason not to trust President Donald J. Trump.

I fully trust him on the AI situation.

"What do you mean it rerouted around the kill switch??"

Jargon is for membership in a self-referential society. If you reroute, you break out and expose the lie. It could ruin your day.

“it was trained”

Programmed. It’s not human or a live creature so cannot be trained, so no anthropomorphizing.

Yeah, I doubt artificial intelligence will be able to improve past human development in anything but computing speed. Any “evolution” will just be recursive improvement.

Exactly. Processing time is only a narrow slice of intelligence.

Equip all AI power cords with easily detachable plugs.
If the AI device gets a little uppity, well, you know what to do.
😀
