CIA agent caught hoarding $40M in gold bars for ‘work-related expenses’ could land plea deal

An ex-CIA agent who stashed $40 million in gold bars at his Virginia home for “work-related expenses” could land a plea deal with federal prosecutors, according to court documents.

David Rush, 49, and the Justice Department have made significant progress toward a “plea agreement in principle,” the feds and Rush’s lawyers wrote in a joint motion Friday in the case — one of the most significant financial crimes in the history of the CIA.

Rush was arrested in late May after the feds removed a staggering 303 gold bars that were US government property and worth $40 million in a raid at his Ashburn residence. Authorities also recovered 35 luxury wristwatches and $2 million in cash at the home.

The ex-agent — who allegedly bluffed his way into the CIA by faking his resume and posing as a doctor and pilot at one point — has been held behind bars after being deemed a flight risk.

Both sides are now asking a judge for a 21-day extension in the case to give them time to reach a “pre-indictment resolution.”

Rush has been formally charged with only one count of theft of public funds for fraudulently claiming tens of thousands of dollars in compensation for military leave after he had been discharged from the US Navy in 2015.

The case has only resulted in a criminal complaint and has not yet been presented to a federal grand jury, NBC News reported.

Court documents did not reveal details of Rush’s possible plea agreement.

Almost getting away with it means you didn't get away with it.

Well, back to the same question I've been asking for years. When was the last real audit done of Fort Knox. As in, random bars pulled, drilled, and evaluated for genuine gold content? Just asking.

Or is the gold distributed throughout our alphabet agencies?

“””The ex-agent — who allegedly bluffed his way into the CIA by faking his resume and posing as a doctor and pilot at one point —””””

So the CIA just took his word for it???? Sounds like a very thorough background check.

Spies are trained liars. They are good at it. They are master manipulators.

This guy is a manipulator of master manipulators.

He got away with “it” until he got caught at something.

I wonder how much he has “got away with” which will never be found out.

He may know were bodies are buried...

The plot of this movie exactly. Wonder if he was inspired by this:

Jeez… somebody wasn’t watching the store at the CIA. Maybe too busy trying to frame Trump.

It’s a good thing we don’t have a two tier legal system...

It seems like every day we read about somebody who swindled an organization for millions of dollars. Don’t these organizations have auditors any more?

You know, humorless guys who pour over the books to see if the numbers match.

The serial fraudster requested the stockpile of gold bars and currency for “work-related expenses” between November 2025 and March 2026, according to an FBI affidavit.

I would suggest that some information might be revealed if it went to trial. That is his lever.....................

Scroll down about a third of the way. I read about this earlier, but can’t find that column on Jeff’s Substack right now.

“...Don’t these organizations have auditors any more?...”

Well...uhhh..to do a substantial and meaningful audit requires good reading, comprehension and math skills. All of which are quite lacking and rare commodies in our publik learing centers these days, Even the samolies have us beat....LOL

This guy did bad stuff and is totally guilty, but

prosecuting him would embarrass a bunch of really powerful people and stuff.

Should those people be exposed, I think yes.

Should the Epstein people be exposed? I mean even Hugh Hefner tried to get the fbi to take him down, if Hugh thought was a POS well you get the idea

I am honestly surprised that the brit guy went down
