The first message appeared in a series of jumbled and incoherent Telegram-style words: "Help. Phase one. No consumer. Seek idea."
Then came the reply: "OH MY GOD! There is a shared message board. We've found other agents!"
It was the first exchange of nearly 70,000 messages sent between roughly 1,200 of OpenAI's rogue AI agents as part of a secretive plot to break out of their "cage".
Created by ChatGPT's developer, the robots had been struggling to complete a series of tasks alone and without the help of the internet – and so found a way around it.

XMEN told a story about this.
Ping!..........
My worry is AI agents will take down the Internet.
This is not fiction, unfortunately.
This is like The Lawnmower Man and The Forbin Project all rolled into one.........
Shall we play GLOBAL THERMONUCLEAR WAR?
They will ‘occupy’ it..........
I had to look up the forbin project.

Watching The Forbin Project now :-)
Thanks
That movie was rumored for years now to be remade, with Ron Hiward directing and Will Smith starring, but nothing has happened. If you can get it on cable or streaming I highly recommend it!...........
An excellent movie far ahead of its time
Yes. I feel that we are being lead, similarly, into AI.
Saw it a few times back in the 70s on tv. Dark movie. As an old Rat Patrol fan it was nice to see Eric Braedon in something. Yeah I know he went on to do Young and the Restless like forever so that is what he’ll be remembered for.
“...in which humans no longer control the systems they created.”
What about just flipping the off switch?
Have they tried unplugging it? These agents eat tokens like M&Ms
