15 colleges now cost $100K+ per year — and almost none of them are worth it

Caveat emptor!

The number of colleges that cost more than $100,000 per year to attend has sky-rocketed this year — but few of these pricey schools offer a strong return on investment, according to rankings.

Fifteen higher ed institutions cracked the six-figure pricetag this year, up from a just two the previous year, according to an analysis from the the Washington Post.

That means students at those schools will be shelling out nearly a half-million dollars over four years of schooling.

Another another nine colleges were also mere dollars away from breaking the six-figure mark, data from the Princeton Review showed.

The most expensive schools in the US are:

Harvey Mudd College, Calif. — $104,512
Duke University, NC — $103,975
University of Chicago, Ill. — $103,821
University of Southern California, Ill. — $103,162
Barnard College, NY — $103,000
Washington University, Mo. — $102,260
Smith College, Mass. — $102,226
Fordham University, NY — $102,188
Claremont McKenna College, Calif. — $101,990
Vassar College, NY — $101,051
Wesleyan University, Conn. — $101,030
New York University, NY — $100,998
Georgetown University, DC — $100,864
Colgate University, NY — $100,224
Haverford College, Penn. — $100,026

Ivy League schools Brown, Columbia and Cornell were close behind, each charging just under $100,000 per year.

Check out the lines at graduation. Diversity meter sits on zero.

At this point in time, I would be concerned about hiring someone who paid that kind of money for college. It suggests either growing up with a silver spoon, or having poor judgment. Sadly.

Dang, my alma mater is now the most expensive school in the country!
Mudd isn’t what it used to be. I guess that’s a new way to be #1, :-(

Most of that money goes to woke administrators which is a very bad thing.

Mudd was $10,700 when I enrolled there, but I got off cheap sleeping in my car for half of the first year.

Since AI was used to generate the chart? Kinda puts the whole premise and accuracy of the chart into question doesn’t it?

If I had to do my career over again, I would be a tradesman. Something w/low material costs and high returns like a landscaper or electrician. They are some of the wealthiest people I know.

Its just like everything in life.
Real Estate: “Location, location, location”
College: “Where you go, what you study, GPA”
Retirement: “Wise investments, save your pennies”
Business: “Keep costs down, hire good people, pay attention”

I got into real estate late but did very well.
College did very well in engineering.
Did very well in retirement planning but could have done better.
Doing ok with small business. Lots to learn.

Hell if I know. It's not close to the same intimate place. They grew the class sizes by blowing off the mission that made the school unique: breadth in technical and social education with intimate relationships with professors. Biology and computer science added to engineering, math, and chemistry. They could have made it a truly unique program by admitting that a broad based undergrad education now takes five years.

I also tried to get them to consider mining the home-education market to help those parents plan their kids' education to be ready for such a task. Deaf ears. The social justice warriors had taken over admissions. It was stupid.

“Harvey Mudd College”

I don’t think I’d own up to that degree.

At this point, the stupid people go to college.
The people with dirt under their fingernails are the smart ones.

looking at the list, depending on the major, Duke and Georgetown might provide a positive return on investment. The rest I would term ‘highly unlikely’.

But who actually pays full price at most of those?

Nobody pays that much. Practically every student gets grants (mostly from socialist organizations and/or the gummint, which is the same thing) or substantial scholarships.

It’s a money laundering scheme. Big businesses get YUGE tax deductions by making to donations to liberal universities so they can produce another crop of brainwashed socialists.

In the cases of a lot of these schools graduating gains you access to a valuable alumni network.

Of course if you are a dolt at one of the best schools, you are still a dolt.

It’s best to have a plan beyond your school years.
