DeSantis: All Flock cameras on Florida highways will be removed

DeSantis does it again.

On Monday, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis did something no other governor has done. He tore down all the Flock cameras on the highways.

[DeSantis] told interviewer Eric Bolling that state agencies would take down the units they control and that 'we're going to clear the state right-of-ways.' The governor estimated that the large majority of Florida's roughly 7,500 license-plate readers sit on local rather than state roads.

The memo applies only to devices in the right-of-way of the State Highway System. It does not cover cameras on county or city roads, private property or other types of mobile license-plate readers used by agencies such as the Florida Highway Patrol for law enforcement purposes ...

FDOT's memo frames the change as necessary 'to preserve Floridians' sovereignty and quality of life.' Local agencies that currently have permitted readers on state roads now have until late September to take them down.

World's best governor strikes again!

Greater numbers? Are you saying they flock together?

I love DeSantis and usually agree with him, but on this one, I disagree.

Can there be abuse with these cameras, sure, but look at the bad guys that get caught and kids that get saved.

My neighbor's ring camera can eyeball me 7/24, I know that so I don't do lewd actions outside.

The idea of the 4th Amendment does not insure individual privacy in public places, look at the cameras in shopping malls, casinos, grocery stores etc.

Having now watched DeSantis govern for 7+ years, the one thing that I know is that what he is doing is right, he has a plan and he will execute on it competently. He is taking down Flock cameras to prevent abuse. But he is not doing it mindlessly and has a plan to enforce the law without them. Or at some point he will put cameras back up in a way that does not allow abuse. He is the best governor in the country and should be president.

This is so stupid. I want to have LEO track criminals and suspended drivers and uninsured cars. No one is interested in me and if they are so f****** what?

an interesting detail.

beyond jurisdiction?

another though is how much of the budget is saved for other more important purposes? These flock cameras are not free.

there are pros and cons for everything. what is the net effect?

The problem with Flock cameras is the random open access with zero accountability. When police are using it to track ex-girlfriends and are not fired, we have an obvious problem.

When it comes to flock cams an Ai data centers everybody has an opinion that’s for sure.

Heres mine, I liken flock cams to covid shots and here’s why. Both were foisted on the American public with little research and oversight.

The flock cams are not ready for prime for a couple of reasons.

1. They are being abused.

2. Not enough training for LEOs using the system.

3. Not enough oversight.

Just my 2 cent
