I’ve been on a bit of an anti-woman kick in my writing (see here and here)—not because I actually hate women (I am one), but because I’ve been dealing with a lot of awful women in recent weeks. One such exchange comes to mind, and there’s a point in it I’d like to make.
Every summer, I buy a pool membership pass at a local country club because it allows me some suntanning time, and my 8-year-old logs lots of swimming hours. But let me be clear: This is not some fancy-schmancy club—snobby people are not my people.
The club simply has a high enough dollar amount to keep out undesirable demographics, but it’s nothing special. In fact, it’s really quite dumpy compared to other country clubs I’ve been to in my life. (I grew up spending a few weeks of every summer in the Midwest, swimming and playing at a very nice country club on Lake Mendota, right across the way from the Capitol building in Madison, which my Grandpa Sam had founded.)
Anyway, earlier this week, I had a girlfriend join me for some pool time at the local club, as the season is about to end. Since she’s not a member, she simply pays a guest fee each time she goes—she’s been coming throughout the summer because we have other mutual friends who are also members.
The pool was entirely empty, so we had the whole place to ourselves…and then the pool manager, who had been glaring at us from the window upstairs, came down to make sure we paid our $7 guest fee (one that my friend has always paid).
At this point, the woman in question—let’s call her Miserable Judy—asked who I was. This is my third summer here, and we’ve had a number of

Such problems you have!
Ok, you encountered someone confrontational, a bad quality in a representative of management. Complain to same.
You could also stay away from places with memberships. Swim clubs, HOA’s, etc. They’re infested with people “dressed in a little brief authority.”
But the size of the things that bother you...well...
That’s really good!
I think you win the Internet, today.
Miserable Karen Judy in Disguise 🥸
Yeah that’s-a what she are...
We had one who ran our Parks and Recreation years ago. There was a festival and I took a 20x40 canopy to shade a girl scout troop who were managing crafts for little kids. There was full sun and absolutely no wind. I had sand bags to anchor it. The “No” person drove up in her gator and told me I had to anchor it to the pavement. I said, “I have a rope, how bout I tie your fat a$$ to it.” She left.
The author is an awful person.
👌
recently it was pointed out to me that women are the real killers in with world wide abortions at 30 million per year.
LOL, don't get me started about one particular "no" woman in one DMV, after multiple times of trying to register a trailer with her, went to another location where a woman handled the transaction immediately.
My ex-club has a policy on the number of times a member can have a particular guest. The idea is that if the guest wants to go to the pool more than 5 times a summer, they should apply for membership, which is surely a lot more than $7 times 5 visits. A club can have no limit, or a different limit, but a rule is a rule. But, since the guests are logging in, the right thing to do is complain to management who can explain the rules. A member should not take this role for themselves, they should have management handle it. We also had a tennis pro who was giving lessons to non-members on our courts on a regular basis.
Since two of the victims were male, the jury should have been 2/3rds male.
If they endeavored to be the “fairer” sex that would be fine.
“Give the Lady some time”
But she thinks “no I am their equal and I will make the man to rwait because I can”.
Many minorities have the same outlook.
“Try’in maka me move,”
Move on down the line whitey.
And heaven help you if its a woman of color and she knows you ate waiting for that spot. She will not budge until you give up and leave.
LOL-—good for you!
It’s a shock when you have your first unshielded, one-on-one experience with a verbally abuser who by virtue of some kind of relationship, has you, at least temporarily, in her clutches.
The longer-term, and more permanent, or semi-permanent, the relationship, the more destruction, of the victim’s personality, can take place, until the victim (hopefully) escapes the cycle.
Patricia Evans (Life Coach)
The Verbally Abusive Relationship, Expanded Third Edition: How to recognize it and how to respond (published 2010)
The first edition of this book was published in 1990.
The author claims in the introduction that, in the book, the pronoun “he” is used for the abuser, and the pronoun “she” for the victim, solely for convenience, in that, abusers can surely and easily be female, and victims can surely and easily be male.
The author goes further and says that verbally abusive men are, in some few cases, capable of reforming, and in her clinical experience, are known at times to come to a stark realization of what they’ve done, and thereafter, to reform. To drop their abusive ways.
By contrast, the author says, that in her decades of clinical experience, not a single verbally abusive women has reformed. Not a single verbally abusive woman she has come across, or professionally encountered, or confronted, during the course of her clinical work for clients as a life coach, has dropped her abusive ways.
Not for nothing, but damn—does this ever “track’, as the kids are fond of saying.
People—Lower your expectations! She is most likely never going to experience that “Come To Jesus” moment, however inevitable you think that may be!
I’m not a paying member of American Thinker, so I can’t read the article
Management by the word NO.
It was no big deal to me, but really? Give some people a yellow vest...
Them: Believe all women.
Clancy: I did it.
Them: The husband did it.
