Country music star Jelly Roll has decided a good portion of his audience can take a hike.

The “Son of a Sinner” singer, whose real name is Jason Bradley DeFord, stunned audiences when he guest-hosted on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" this week and delivered some particularly sharp criticisms of President Trump.

“Jelly Roll” as a monikur has a long history. A very highly regarded old blues singer was called Jelly Roll Morton. But I would be immediately cautious about anyone voluntarily adopting or carrying that monikur these days. I’m no prude but still wouldn’t go around voluntarily carrying a lewd monikur or title. Jelly Roll has strong vulgar connotations.

From AI:

AI Overview The nickname “Jelly Roll” used by early jazz and blues pioneer Jelly Roll Morton originated from 20th-century African-American sexual slang referring to female genitalia or sexual intercourse.

Background of the Name

The Pervasive Slang: In the early 1900s, the term “jelly roll” was widely used in blues lyrics and black vernacular as a double entendre for sexual anatomy and pleasure.

Storyville Days: Ferdinand Joseph LaMothe (Morton) adopted the moniker while playing piano in the brothels and red-light district of Storyville in New Orleans during his youth.

Stage Persona: Flamboyant and boastful, Morton embraced the colorful slang as a stage name to match the raucous, high-spirited environment of the houses of ill repute where he honed his craft.

That’s when country became, as Tom Petty put it, ‘Bad Rock with a fiddle.’

Never heard of Jelly Roll. Do I have to start listening to him so I can stop listening to him?

I’ve only ever heard the name of Jason Aldean on that list and probably never heard his music.

I like classic country. George Straight and prior. Johnny Cash, George Jones, Patsy Cline...

Jelly Roll: a type of rolled sponge cake (also called a Swiss roll outside the U.S.).It’s made from a thin, rectangular layer of light sponge cake that’s spread with fruit jelly, jam, or sometimes cream/filling, then rolled into a cylinder. When sliced, it shows a spiral of cake and filling. It’s baked in a shallow rectangular pan (a jelly roll pan, typically around 10 × 15 inches) so the cake stays thin enough to roll without cracking.

I was introduced to TTB at the Clapton Crossroads Guitar Festival in Dallas 2019. Hard to believe that it was that long ago. The entire evening was incredible, over 8 hours of great music.

I saw them in Irving last year, with their special guest Buddy Guy. Great show!

George Strait would still outdraw any so-called modern “country star”.

The very sad thing is that I love a song he did, that is ONE song!!, which is Hard Fought Hallelujah, with Christian singer Brandon Lake!! It’s a GREAT song but Brandon does it just fine by himself...and that is what I will choose from now on.

Happy Trails in LaLaLand Jelly Roll...

Aldean stirred up the Blacks and Illegal aliens with his outstanding song, "Try That In A Small Town." From what I could see, that song should have only trigged those perps with guilty consciences.

Ella Langley is the hottest thing going. Busting all kinds of records. "Choosin' Texas" and "Be Her". You should try some of that stuff.

Aaron Lewis was the front man for "Staind". He is very patriotic and has a number of albums with country and patriotic music. You just have to be careful. His albums have more "F" bombs than the DNC's old lady caucuses. LOL. His song "Am I The Only One" is outstanding.

“Try That In A Small Town.”

Oh, yeah. I’ve heard that song. I didn’t know the artist. It’s a great song.

“Aaron Lewis was the front man for ‘Staind’”

Never heard of Staind.

This phony, smarmy, obese, tattoo-faced degenerate is so awful.

He just blew his own cover by going on the hellscape Jimmy Kimmel Show.

Now we know what he is really all about.

I am glad my poor deceased parents are not alive to see this individual. They probably would not believe that he is actually mainstream in this wretched world of ours.

Alas he is and he is not alone.
