Dolly Parton‘s reps have revealed her cause of death. The iconic singer died after a “brief battle” with cancer at Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville, her reps said Tuesday.
“Our beloved Dolly Parton spent her life and career bringing joy, laughter, hope and integrity into everything she touched. Her unmatched generosity reached the lives of countless people whom she would never meet, yet she was always there to offer a helping hand,” the statement from her reps to People magazine read.

You know, I don’t think I ever heard a negative comment about Dolly. She never seemed to be controversial and kept her politics to herself. What a great thing!

For the most part but as was noted in the main thread on her passing she did advocate some things that veer into the political realm. She was in favour of the vax and showed herself getting it too.

Cancer can hide without symptoms until it is too late especially when you are 80 years old.

I read somewhere that Dolly Parton was the only American public figure who scored favorably with all types of groups. Democrat and Republican. Liberal and conservative. Young and old. Etc.
She was quite a gal.
And also a role model for the entertainers of today. Stay in your lane, guys.
She is on record admitting she “ignored” several health problems in the time leading up to, and a year after her husband’s death. So it was there, she didn’t begin treatment until last spring.

A terminal cancer diagnosis explains what I was seeing with Dolly for the last four or five years. All of a sudden, a few years back, she was doing more live shows and interviews than she had done in years, many times, sharing the stage with Miley Cyrus. I wondered, why is Dolly suddenly working so constantly, like somebody new and unproven? Is she running out of cash with Dollywood?
Does she feel her music legacy is being ignored?
What’s going on with one of the richest entertainers in the business? Her net worth was somewhere around $600 Million.
The answer is Dolly must have known that her time was running out.
My nephew fell ill on a Monday night and by Thursday he was dead due to acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) in 2017. He had no symptoms prior to that Monday night.

WHERE WAS THE CANCER?
Sometimes cancer is relatively asymptomatic until well along, people don’t get checkups (I’m bad about that myself), moderate symptoms are ignored or denied, etc. On the other hand, VERY often, when someone has a long battle with cancer, they are getting treatments or other care. Humans are typically quite bad about assuming what they’ve seen around them in the physical world the last few years is the norm* - and great advancements in extending useful life with cancer have been made in the last few decades. When I was young, I can remember several instances of people going down quickly to cancer, including my much loved maternal grandfather. His cancer had metastasized before he was diagnosed with a big lump above (but not on) his lung.)
*A top example is climate. We are in an atypical benign period, considering the long term average over the last 40 million years or so. As one wag put it: “ ‘Normal’ is Chicago under a mile of ice.” To a young or puny mind, our present climate is “how it should be.”
(Going back to the age(s) of the dinosaurs, the Earth was much more “life friendly” than it is now. If you didn’t get eaten yourself, that is, but then, a lot of the present friendliness to humans is a function of humans acquiring the skills to make weapons, fire, advanced shelter, etc..)
In the geologic sense, 10,000 years is a quite brief period...
In everyday(?) life, it’s all a matter of perspective: When I was young, I thought an hour sometimes seemed an eternity. At my age now, an hour often goes by before I get my head turned to check a clock... :-(

It sounds more like liver. PC comes on quietly, and is often diagnosed late. Of course it usually spreads to the liver and that is what “ends” things.
Either way, I hope it was fast and mostly painless.
And she was focused on her husbands illness, so “indigestion” could have been waved off. Then when it was finally looked at, it was too late.
At eighty there would not have been many options because the treatments would have killed her.
