Tim Curry, a multitalented star of the stage and screen, died Tuesday at his home at the age of 80. The three-time Tony Award-nominated icon was best known for his eccentric characters, his musical background, and his comedic chops, leading to a varied and successful career in cult classics and box office hits.
Curry “passed away peacefully at his home in Toluca Lake, Los Angeles,” according to a statement from his longtime manager Marcia Hurwitz. The cause of death has not been made public, but Curry had suffered from several health issues since having a severe stroke in 2012.
Though he was best-known for donning fishnets and a corset as Dr. Frank-N-Furter in 1975’s “Rocky Horror Picture Show,” Curry had left his mark with a wide-ranging career spanning albums, voice work, and more.

I never cared for the Rocky Horror Picture Show. It seemed gay even for back then.
He was great in Clue
Which is a shame because it is a pretty good movie, even has some depth to the story.
And should not have!!!
I can think of at least half a dozen Tom Cruise monies that *should* have bombed, but this movie was great. Quirky, to be sure. But awesome. Curry and Mia Sara were awesome.

I have never seen that movie. And I’m not sure I want to.
I picked the DVD in a WalMart bargain bin some years ago and didn’t think it was a bad movie either. But nobody I’ve talked to has ever heard of it.
wow... I just looks at pictures of many of his different roles.
I recognized nearly all of them! But had NO IDEA that was all the same man!
He was a true chameleon and a great actor to have looked so completely different from role to role.
Mia Sara shines - her work with Curry in that was awesome. Her talents were wasted on Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. For whatever reason, she slowly dropped out of acting after that.
The second is a movie that I'm wondering if no one but I have ever watched because I've never heard anyone else discuss it ... a time-travel pirate movie ...

I saw Tim Curry as The Pirate King in The Pirates of Penzance. It was one of the few roles I’ve seen him in that I didn’t think went well for him.

We all watched it a couple of months ago. This weekend I have Pirates of Penzance queued up along with YouTube videos of The Charismatic Voice losing her mind over Linda Rondstadt singing Blue Bayou and You’re No Good live.
Part of properly educating my kids on how Western Civilization peaked in the 70s, started sputtering in the 80s, and has been sliding rapidly ever since - and to make sure they pick up as much of that culture as they can while they’ll still listen to me.
The standardized audience dialogue was largely developed at NYC's Wavery Theater, along with the complete list of audience participation props (water pistols, newspaper, rice, spinning ratchet noisemaker, confetti, rubber gloves, candles, toast, party hat, bell, playing cards, hotdogs & prunes). Veteran "audience cast members" know to bring extra and before the movie starts they patrol the audience asking anyone not "in costume," "Are you a virgin?" meaning is this the first time you've seen "Rocky Horror." If you answer yes, they'll give you one or two of their spare props so you can be part of the movie, too.
Some of the audience dialogue is even call-and-reply; half the audience sets up the joke and other half delivers the punchline. Like the squirt guns and newspaper. The audience only needs one or the other because half use the squirt guns to simulate rain happening on-screen while the other half use the newspaper to cover their heads (mirroring Susan Sarandon's actions).
If you've seen Rocky Horror without a properly rehearsed and correctly dressed audience, you only think you've seen Rocky Horror.
And you should never under any circumstances watch it for the first time without an experienced audience because it's not the movie that's entertaining, is the audience's collective ridicule of it that makes it worth watching.
There's even a sound track available online of the audience's "call backs" that can be synced to the video of the movie to get you closer to the live cinema experience.
