Trump has done an excellent job concerning this.

Bessent is correct that the structural, baseline deficit under the latter half of the Biden administration (~6.4%) was higher than the baseline peacetime deficit inherited or generated during the baseline of Trump’s first term (~4.6%).

“Total debt accumulation was massive under both administrations. Trump approved roughly $4.8 trillion in non-COVID debt over his full term, while Biden approved roughly $4.5 trillion in gross non-COVID debt over his, leaving both sides facing criticism from fiscal watchdogs over structural overspending.” ~ Google AI

I know nothing about finance, but from all reports, Bessent is doing an excellent job.

I think he's doing an excellent job, but on this one he's just engaging in political nonsense.

I wouldn't blame this on Trump, either. The U.S. is facing massive structural headwinds in its economy that pretty much guarantee that our national debt will escalate out of control.

Probably true, but we’re two years into the Trump economy. Blaming Biden now isn’t going to do much for Americans that voted for you.

I’m actually getting tired of blaming any President for our budget deficit.

Sure, they have some influence.

However, the true responsibility for the budget and spending lies with Congress.

at least we now know where that extra $10 Trillion of debt came from.

Just wait until we have to start posting the true costs of the new war we’re in. They will be astronomical.

Reducing deficit spending just slows your increasing debt. It’s a false flag narrative.

Reducing actual debt by paying it off is what’s needed but never done.

You are correct, sir.
