Is China’s Mega Embassy Actually a Massive Spying Compound?
YouTube.com ^ | August 15, 2026 | Jan Jekelek

The largest Chinese embassy in Europe is set to rise in the heart of London: a 20,000 square meter complex at Royal Mint Court.

Local councillors rejected it twice. But the government approved it anyway, and a High Court challenge from residents was dismissed this summer.

Standing against it is Luke de Pulford, founder of the Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China—an international coalition of lawmakers opposing CCP infiltration.

Why does this embassy matter, and why should America care?

The site sits directly above fiber-optic cables carrying sensitive financial data between the City of London and Canary Wharf, Britain's two main financial districts. The architectural drawings are also conspicuously redacted.

"Nearly an entire floor is redacted, so we don't know what the use of those buildings are, and some of those rooms are in the basement area," de Pulford says.

"If the Chinese were able to, in some way, sabotage or hack this cabling … They would be impacting any financial services from anywhere in the world who are located in those two financial centers, which of course includes the United States."

MI5 lists China as one of the most serious national security threats facing the UK. So why was the embassy approved?

"It's partly down to the leverage that China exacts, it's partly down to the carrots that it dangles around economic opportunities, and it's partly down to the blunt coercion it's willing to mete out."

This episode looks at what can still be done to stop the project, why it's being called the last line of defense, and what it takes to resist communist infiltration from within.

rlmorel rolls eyes at the rhetorical question: "Is China’s Mega Embassy Actually a Massive Spying Compound?"

Not at you posting it, of course, but the fact that there are people who might actually ask that.

I had to figure out how to frame the question, thinking to myself whether I should even ponder if that is a serious question:

"Hmm. Let's see...the PRC, the largest totalitarian government in the world, the most pernicious and prevalent integrated surveillance society in the world, the society that does not allow for any protections from the predations of a surveillance police state, the country that is so racist towards non-Chinese that one does not need to understand that they care less than any surveillance niceties laid out in diplomatic rules by people they not only have contempt for, but see it as more fun to break any rules against surveillance against people they have little respect for, decides its mega-Embassy in Europe is going to avert Its surveillance activities for some reason?"

Dang. Is that a serious question, even rhetorically speaking???

Hmmm.

When you’re in bed with totalitarian authoritarianism your like-minded friends take liberties with you.

surly they must be joking. the embassy will be a giant visible center that’s supplying and getting intel from their less visible “police stations” all over the world.

China truly is an evil empire.

I beg to differ. commies always gonna commie against their enemies.

The evil is what's become of the UK:

On top of everything else bad about the limeys, they LET them build it right on top of the fiber cables.

The UK needs to worry about Russia, because Russia is going to TAKE OVER THE WORLD, unless the UK can stop them.

Back in the Soviet Union days, the second largest KGB base was in Mexico City. They had cooperation with the PRI party.

Your travel experiences are very similar to mine.

We used to laugh at the “crying Indian” commercials in the 70s advising us to pick up litter. (even though it turned out he was an Italian guy).

Turns out that was a very effective public relations campaign that crossed generations. America is very clean as a result.

Except for blue cities where people poop, pee, and drop trash and needles on the sidewalks.

Otherwise we’re very clean and tidy. ;)

Um....disconnect the cables and reroute them well away from the embassy with top level secrecy.

“Then we went to China. China made all those filthy places look Swiss. China was an ABOMINATION of filth. Since the Chinese believe in only luck and money it was easy to see why their country was so dirty. It takes money to clean and keep a country clean.”

I bet that was 20 or 30 years ago. Chinese cities are a lot cleaner now. But you are right; they used to be filthy.

Oddly, the PRC government was embarrassed by tourists’ negative reactions to the Beijing Olympics in 2008 and started a massive, nationwide clean-up that continues to this day. You don’t see people spitting, pissing, or crapping on street corners anymore, or mounds of litter and dust.

I’d take any large Chinese city’s cleanliness over NYC, Chicago, Houston, or LA any day. If you went back, you’d find clean, safe, and attractive, walkable cities, for the most part.

I’m not saying the country is perfect; it isn’t. And where the PRC deserves a lot of criticism is its foreign policy. The slow-rolling invasion of the Philippines is a huge issue that could easily lead to a major war. The continued theft of intellectual property is also particularly troubling, as is the dumping of subsidized goods to kill off other countries’ industries. The harassment of non-PRC citizens of Chinese descent is blatantly illegal. The list is long.

In many ways, it is domestically censorious and oppressive. Though not worse than the UK or Western Europe in most ways.

I would encourage many here to take a sightseeing trip into China. It’s safe, affordable, and accessible. Walk around. Go to church. Shop in a Chinese Walmart (Where they feature “Made in America” goods), eat out. Talk to the locals; they are generally remarkably friendly.

Introduce a slight delay in the market signals and you could make a lot of money.

Then we went to China. China made all those filthy places look Swiss.

I was broke during my one year in law school in Columbia, MO. I lived in a cheap Chinese rooming house.

One of the housemates, Zhu, was a graduate student on the ag school (tea specialist). He constantly had other female students over and they spent a lot of time cooking. Wok cooking. Lotsa oil. They didn't really cleanup. After a few months, and a bad cockroach infestation, I stood on a kitchen chair and cleared off the top of the fridge. It was coated with 1/4" of what looked like ear wax. I have an unusually high disgust threshold, and that tripped it. I scraped and cleaned, cleaned and scraped.

Near the end of the academic year, just before finals week, two Malaysian girls just of the boat were moved into an 8x10 bedroom. When I got up to shower, they were doing laundry in the bathtub. A few days later, just before finals week, one these gals flushed a hygiene product down the toilet and everything backed up into the shag carpet in my room. That year was a disaster.

,,, move London’s financial infrastructure to Hull. It’s where all of Britain will end up, the way it’s going.

Did you tour the rural Indian villages where everyone craps on the ground, sans paper, in the village square?

or watch people pissing in a shimmering, oily trickle of water running down the middle of the village street while kids drink the water?

or enjoy the view from the train of mountains of trash and garbage, stretching kilometers, among which people make their homes?

or watch the dead float down the Ganges past the river-view restaurant where you eating?

How SWISS is that?

Lol.

India was a PIT-HOLE. No doubt whatsoever,
However, compared to China, India was Swiss.

I had seen filthy third world countries and BLESSED our good Lord for allowing me to be born HERE in the USA.

When we finally landed at our airport I got down on the airport linoleum and KISSED it, thanking our good Lord for being born here.
Some Americans have NO idea how blessed we are.
I always SUGGEST that they visit one of those third world pit holes JUST to realize how BLESSED we are.

So when Americans complain (ENDLESSLY) about all the negativity regarding our country...tell'em to go visit BANGLADESH for a while...an hour is all that is needed.

GOD BLESS AMERICA!
