1776 was the year we declared independence; however, we did not become an independent nation until 1783 when our government sighed the Treaty of Paris.
Anything after 1828 should be paid by the Democrat Party.
There is no money for reparations. The left likes to keep mentioning as it’s a good way to keep a few stupid people on the Democrat plantation. Reparations and a winning lottery ticket is the full extent of their retirement plan.
I want to be paid for the millions of Indians we brought over here in the last 10 years and took my job.
| Measure | U.S. Black households / people | Sub-Saharan Africa benchmark | What it implies |

The household-income figure should not be compared mechanically to GDP per capita—one is household median income and the other national output per person—but the orders of magnitude make the main point clear: the average material standard of living in the United States is far higher than in sub-Saharan Africa.
What did Muhammed Ali say? Thank God my Grandaddy got on the boat!
In other words every decedent of slaves owes a debt of gratitude in that they were not born and raised in Africa.
It should be pointed out that it was the British and the Americans who ended slavery.
The Irish,Scotch, and other poor english were in the
western hemisphere before the slaves from Africa.
california never had slaves, other then from china...
I agree that 1776 is likely the more appropriate number historically however H.Res.414 mentions 1776.
Either way it’s not the U.S.’s burden to bear.
After 1776? Way after 1776?
That would be a distraction.
We’ve been paying reparations for decades through all sorts of social programs. It’s done more harm than good.
Slavery was not illegal then...there are no living slaves...no reparations...
This is genarally true. Why? Mostly because of their own decisions about handling their money!
Wow. I meant to say I agree about 1783. It makes perfect sense.
Note, looking out for these States to moves to correct.
Why isn’t Africa on the hook for any “reparations”? They were selling their fellow countrymen and profited by it. It is more than likely the slave trade continues there still.
There should be an accounting for benefits afforded to descendants of slavery. I’m sure there are Caucasians drawing for the government but they’re not the ones making demands
No issue would so divide the American People. How do you find the decedents of slaves? What about blacks who owned slaves? What about Native Americans who owned them? Is this for slavery or Jim Crow outrages? IF you could find the right people—and if each one got a million dollars (if the money could be found) How long before it would be spent? Then, blacks, now broke, would want more. Historical problems can not be solved like this. Native people have a bigger claim. Its a great issue to get votes but—in truth it will cause problems beyond imagination.
It was also paid with plenty of White American’s blood well before that.
And, they should be looking to their own and muslim/islamist slavers who engineered the lot of it.
