The Vera C. Rubin Observatory is a major astronomical facility located on Cerro Pachón in Chile, jointly funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation and the Department of Energy. It is named after astronomer Vera Rubin, who provided the first convincing evidence for the existence of dark matter.

Key operational milestones include:

First Light: Achieved in June 2025, with the release of the first images revealing billions of stars, galaxies, and thousands of previously unseen asteroids.

Full Survey Operations: The Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST) officially began in July 2026 and will run for ten years.

The observatory features an 8.4-meter telescope equipped with the world’s largest digital camera (3,200 megapixels). It captures images of the southern sky every 40 seconds, generating approximately 20 terabytes of data nightly to create a comprehensive, time-lapse record of the universe. Its primary scientific goals are probing dark energy and dark matter, cataloging the solar system (including the potential discovery of Planet Nine), exploring transient events, and mapping the Milky Way.

The Vera C. Rubin Observatory is in the early stages of its ten-year mission, having officially begun full survey operations in July 2026 (specifically June 30, 2026).

Prior to full operations, the observatory captured its first images during test runs in June 2025, which included a composite of 678 images taken over seven hours and a video combining 1,100 images.

During its full survey, the telescope is designed to capture approximately 1,000 images per night, with each image covering an area as large as 45 full moons. Over the course of the decade-long survey, it is expected to generate more than 2 million images and produce 500 petabytes of data.

Will this finally capture some of those UFOs or UAPs that some seem to be so fixated on?

Perhaps, but I recommend not holding your breath. 😁🤙

But I do anticiupate that we will gain far more knowledge from this 10 year mission.

Enjoy the video wihchs run for: 20 minutes & 30 seconds.

Someone should compare a page of FR thread titles from today, to a page of FR thread titles from 15 years ago.

It probably couldn’t capture a picture of a UFO if it wanted to, unless the UFO was willing to stay in a single spot until the telescope captured the image.

August 14, 2026 (today) vs. August 14, 2011 (15 years earlier) on Free Republic.
Free Republic is a long-running conservative forum where members post and discuss news articles, often with a focus on politics, government overreach, cultural issues, and activism. Titles come primarily from the site’s “Latest Articles” / front-page style listings (user-posted links with headlines). Exact full archives for the precise 2011 front page are limited in public captures, but contemporaneous posts, tags, and news context from that period provide a clear picture of the dominant topics.
Notable topics / sample titles — August 14, 2026
• Political corruption and legal cases: “Democrat found guilty by jury on federal charges in corruption trial (Sheryl Williams Stapleton - NM).”
• Trump / Israel politics: “Trump stops short of endorsing Bibi as his campaign falters.”
• Culture-war / abortion issues: “Chelsea Handler warns Todd Blanche will overturn Roe v. Wade if he’s confirmed as attorney general.”
• Cultural/identity flashpoints: “Outrage as taxpayer-funded swimming pool planned event ‘exclusively’ for black children (Germany).”
• Other: Brawls at upscale restaurants, James Howard Kunstler commentary (“Things Get Spicy”), astronomy/science hype (Vera Rubin Observatory), plus front-page items on Texas mail-ballot ID rules, Massachusetts abortion legislation, immigration/illegal-alien rights court rulings, RFK Jr. actions on Medicaid, Iran threats/military activity, and birthright citizenship.
The tone is strongly pro-Trump / MAGA-aligned, with emphasis on Democratic scandals, immigration enforcement, abortion, and foreign-policy flashpoints (especially Iran and Israel).
Notable topics / sample titles & context — August 14, 2011
• Obama-focused scrutiny and “birther”/fraud narratives: Posts included items such as “Creating Paper Trail of Charges for Tax and Real Estate Fraud Against Barack H Obama” (posted that day) and ongoing discussion of Obama’s uncle (an illegal immigrant arrested around that period) plus Social Security number / alias claims.
• Economy and debt: Heavy coverage of the recent S&P U.S. credit-rating downgrade, market volatility, China’s criticism of U.S. borrowing (“good old days of borrowing are over”), and related fiscal debates.
• 2012 Republican primary: Rick Perry’s entry into the race, Tim Pawlenty suspending his campaign after the Ames Straw Poll, and early positioning.
• Other recurring themes: Early mentions of planned “US Day of Rage” / Occupy-style actions, Libyan civil war (rebels advancing), Syrian uprising violence, English riots fallout, and general anti-Obama / limited-government commentary.
• Broader conservative activism: Critiques of media, government spending, and cultural issues consistent with the site’s long-standing focus.
Similarities
• Intense focus on the sitting (or recently prominent) Democratic administration and its scandals: In 2011 it was relentless criticism of Obama (personal background claims, economic policy, family members); in 2026 it is parallel scrutiny of Democrats, corruption trials, and cultural positions, often framed against a Trump-led backdrop.
• Partisan legal and political combat: Corruption prosecutions, court rulings on immigration/abortion/voting rules, and “gotcha” stories about opponents appear in both eras.
• Fiscal and government-overreach themes: Debt, spending, and federal power were front-and-center after the 2011 downgrade; echoes appear today in Medicaid, education-fund scandals, and regulatory critiques.
• Foreign affairs with a national-security lens: Iran and Middle East tensions surface in both periods; 2011 also featured Libya and Syria.
• Culture-war and identity issues: Racial/identity policies, abortion, and media bias are perennial Free Republic topics.
• Site character: Both days feature user-curated conservative news aggregation, fundraising appeals (FReepathon), and a mix of hard news, commentary, and activism-oriented threads. The overall worldview—pro-Constitution, anti-left, skeptical of mainstream media and big government—remains consistent.
Notable differences
• Personality-driven framing: 2011 was dominated by anti-Obama material (including fringe identity and fraud claims). 2026 centers more on Trump’s decisions, MAGA priorities, and specific Democratic figures or policies in a post-2024 political environment.
• Specific flashpoints: 2011 was shaped by the immediate aftermath of the debt-ceiling fight and credit downgrade plus the early 2012 primary. 2026 reflects current events around immigration enforcement, abortion litigation, Iran, and identity politics (e.g., race-exclusive public events).
• Tone and technology: Modern titles show more social-media-style urgency and instant-reaction framing; 2011 posts feel slightly more traditional forum-style with longer investigative or “paper trail” efforts.
Overall summary: Free Republic’s daily title mix has stayed remarkably consistent in orientation over 15 years—grassroots conservative skepticism of Democratic power, emphasis on scandals, fiscal restraint, immigration, and cultural pushback—while the specific villains, heroes, and news hooks have shifted with the political calendar (Obama-era controversies → Trump-era and contemporary culture-war battles). The site continues to function as a rapid aggregator and discussion hub for those perspectives.

Cosmic Decoded was begun, according to Google/YouTube own channel information,"Joined Aug 3, 2026."

It is AI generated, and has made/posted 11 videos in 11 days.

Sensationalist titles: "NASA Just Revealed a Structure That SHOULDN'T Exist in Deep Space!," and that "Broke the Internet" malarkey.

It is template driven, and the same AI "Asian" character with different backgrounds narrates. Yup, "NASA in panic..." Nope.

Click bait. Subscribe!

It didn’t discover anything that we didn’t already knew. It confirmed that that stars on the outer edges of spiral galaxies rotate just as fast as stars near the center. This means there isn’t enough visible matter to hold together the galaxies.

Post 3 was really about the wording of titles, not the subject, but the “explosive” new words that “JUST BROKE THE INTERNET” or “Shocker”, “x owns y in shocking video”, “must see”.
