If the Chicago Bears end up moving to Indiana, the team will not be undergoing any sort of name change. There was some speculation this week that the 106-year-old NFL franchise might change its name to the Indiana Bears if the team decides to move to Hammond, Indiana, but owner George McCaskey shot that down on Thursday.
During a press conference, McCaskey was asked point blank if a name change might happen if the team left Illinois and he responded emphatically.

Hammond Slag Masters?
Hammond Cheese. Think of the rivalry with the Packers.
The Hamm’ Beers?
Hoosier Daddy’s?........
To be serious, any firm that had the opportunity to leave Illinois certainly should have. The state has underfunded its public employee pension funds to the point that it will only lead to a very aggressive search for tax revenue in the future (i.e., bend over!). Look at the pace of development in Wisconsin, along the state line. Always avoid placing major capital investments in the wrong jurisdiction. And Illinois is the wrong jurisdiction.
I wonder what percentage of ticket holders actually have Chicago addresses?
There’s an Amtrak line through Chicago to Hammond IN, but from Northern Chicago and Northern / Western Suburbs, it would be a long drive / commute.
The Mostly Not Polar Bears
What’s the NFL ?
I was thinking the same thing—but it could be fun and they could be called the...
Indiana Indianans.
Lol.
Indiana is home to the black bear. Go with it.
Washington Redskins (now Commanders) play in Maryland.
It’s Indiana, I understand MLB is no longer using “the Indians”
Tell me about it. I’ve had flight delays and landed at O’Hare at the Wisconsin terminal with 15 minutes to make it to the Indiana terminal. Silver medalist in the. O’Hare sprints. If I can do it on foot with luggage, Bears fans should be able to manage it in a car.
Over the worst stretch of highway (tollway) in the midwest. 80/94 sucks all the time, the skyway sucks most of the time and there’s no good alternative to that bottleneck. Got to spend over an hour sitting on 80/94 a few weeks ago. Fans will need to pack a pee bottle.
It’s that damn lake. It’s in the way of everything.
To think, I used to root for the Washington Redskins.
And the Atlanta Braves.
Never the Cleveland Indians.
heh
Hammond Eggs.
