The Return of MySpace? Platform Owners Tease Re-Launch 'When the Time Is Right'

Do we really need another social media platform?

Web users are intrigued by the persistent rumors that a legacy online platform may be coming back to our devices.

We are talking about the potential relaunch of MySpace.

While such a move is expected to unleash a wave of nostalgia, no one expects the company to have an easy time competing in the current cut-throat market.

The owners of MySpace say they are planning to relaunch the social media platform

Euronews reported:

“MySpace, once the most popular social media platform in the world in the mid-2000s, could be returning soon. It comes as many social media users are returning to nostalgic, analog experiences, instead of algorithm-driven ones.

The current owners of the platform, Tim and Chris Vanderhook, who also founded Viant Technology, hinted at the potential relaunch in a documentary titled ‘MySpace’.”

“’We still own MySpace. We are stewards of the MySpace brand at this point and we are going to relaunch MySpace. We’re just waiting for the right time to do it. And if that one doesn’t work, we’ll do it again’, said the Vanderhook brothers in the documentary.

The platform was founded in 2003 by Tom Anderson and Chris DeWolfe, leading to the iconic ‘Tom from MySpace’ profile, which was every new user’s first friend.”

If MySpace relaunches, how likely are you to create an account?

This is one of those platforms that just seemed to disappear from popularity practically overnight...nothing gradual. Just one day - no one cared about it anymore.

Always thought MySpace was clunky. Web pages never downloaded properly. Maybe they fixed some stuff.

Not even a new label on the the old bottle?
I’m surprised they didn’t try a subtle spin off from the original name; “Our Space/ THEE Space/ En Space/ Outer Space

MySpace and Hi-Five were fun in 2004. I learned then that social media seems to be for people who to lack large families, close friends and cool hobbies. Free Republic is good, since FR allows us to express and polish our views.

I read stories of teenagers designing webpages for MySpace and then selling them to other teenagers and making a fortune doing so.

SO, They want to place another floater in the cress-pool of societal media. It was trash back in the day and will be again.

To be able to have a place to keep track of friends and perhaps local news without the drama of fb?

I’d pay for that

Hope it’s truly OUR space, i.e., no political censorship of lawful speech.
