North Koreans encouraged to eat ‘nutritious’ dog-meat soup during sweltering summer heat

North Korea has been grappling with record heat this week, prompting officials to recommend dog-meat soup as a way to cool off.

State media promoted the concotion as a traditional summer health remedy as Pyongyang reached a sweltering 98 degrees Thursday, the highest recorded temperature since the capital city began tracking the weather.

Ruling party newspaper Rodong Sinmun published a health feature on Aug. 2 where a Pyongyang General Hospital doctor recommended a myriad of “nutritious foods” to help North Koreans stay cool — including watermelon, cucumbers, fish porridge and mung beans.

The newspaper, which devoted an entire separate feature to the local dish, described dog-meat soup as a traditional summer health tonic that can help people cope with the sizzling heat.

“Even if dog-meat soup spills on the top of your food during the dog days of summer, it becomes medicine,” the newspaper wrote, reviving an old Korean proverb.

Euphemistically known as “dangogi,” or sweet meat, North and South Koreans have long believed dog meat to be a stamina food, typically eaten during the hottest days of the year.

The world has just discovered why North Koreans bark a lot and piss on car tires.

OK, so now I know where “hot dogs” come from. They probably ran out of rats. Poor pooches.

“What they don’t have chickens, pigs and cows there?”

Chickens will eat any food scraps and are the most efficient convertors into protein. (Israel raises turkeys that are more efficient)

Anyways, the answer is not enough chicken flocks, so its on to the dogs.

Reminds me of the KDrama Slave Hunters... there are a couple lines in it where they commented about feasting on a stray dog that was in a lot of scenes... quite funny...

The only way out for the Norks is massive population depopulation. They literally have to die off to get rid of this regime.

North Koreans are fortunate. Here in the West, they tell us to eat bugs.

Nutritional value

The mung bean is recognized for its high nutritive value. A mung bean contains about 55–65% carbohydrate (equal to 630 g/kg dry weight) and are rich in protein, vitamins, and minerals.[57] It is composed of about 20–50% protein of total dry weight, among which globulin (60%) and albumin (25%) are the primary storage proteins (see table). The mung bean is considered to be a substantive source of dietary proteins. The proteolytic cleavage of these proteins is even higher during sprouting. Mung bean carbohydrates are easily digestible, which causes less flatulence in humans compared to other forms of legumes. Both seeds and sprouts of the mung bean produce lower calories compared to other cereals, which makes it a more attractive bean to obese and diabetic individuals.[14]

If the NORKs are eating dogs that means their standard of living has increased significantly. From eating gravel and grass, (1953-2026) to eating meat, even dog meat means the NORKs are living the Communist dream.

I am sure the leadership there is telling it’s poor population, they don’t even eat dogs in the Capitalist West! The have them as pets! How absurd are they???

Bon Appetit NORKs, enjoy the doggies while you can because come winter all you will have is tree bark and snow.

At least they’re not telling them to eat rats. I was stationed in S. Korea in the mid 80s. One family had a Saint Bernard that they were fattening up. The had a family reunion and “Cujo” was no longer seen.

Their government is on a war footing industrially and the North Korean Army is fighting in Europe in the invasion of Ukraine, they don’t don’t do much to help domestically, so dog meat it is, if you are fortunate enough to get it.
