The blue Danube is showing its secrets.
We have been reporting on Europe’s summer from hell, where they are battling high temperatures, wildfires, and droughts.
One of the most dramatic cases if the mythical Danube river that is so low that the Nuclear Power Plants in Hungary and Romania had to be shut.
Now the situation has worsened even more to the point where remnants of the past are arising from the bottom of the river: dozens of WW2 ships and boats – and a mystery from a 1,000 years ago.
CBS News reported:
“Water levels on the Danube River, the second longest in Europe, have dropped so low because of drought that the hulks of dozens of World War II German battleships — and even the remains of an ancient woolly mammoth — are emerging into view.
They are a curious distraction from the summer heat crisis. The Danube’s record-low water levels have also forced power plants to the brink of shutting down, and governments across Central and Eastern Europe are taking steps to conserve electricity.
[…] The ships, some still laden with weapons, belonged to Nazi Germany’s Black Sea fleet that the Germans deliberately sank as they retreated from Romania and as Soviet forces advanced deeper into Europe near the end of the war.”
Reuters reported:
“The remains of what is believed to be an ancient mammoth have been revealed in northern Bulgaria, after Danube River water levels receded to a record low level, the BTA news agency reported on Wednesday, citing historians.
The animal’s remains were found on Wednesday by a local resident of the Ryahovo village, who noticed the unusual find on the river bed. Villagers then alerted specialists in the Regional History Museum in the nearby town of Ruse.”
Museum Director Nikolay Nenov: “’I would not call it a sensation, but any discovery of such ancient remains is very important for science’, Nenov said, adding it has been long believed that the site was a swamp where the animal probably died thousands of years ago.”

And every single sentence after that would have "climate change" in it:
"Climate change has caused he blue Danube to show its secrets. We have been reporting on Climate Change from hell, where b/c of Climate Change, they are battling high temperatures... wildfires, and droughts."
Meaning: The government has to step in and stop it.
It sounds like some serious disarmament activities might be needed before salvaging the pre nuclear metal. Any experts out there on demining etc.? Or would all the explosives be drowned by now from shell case rusting?
This country will be in big future trouble if stupid greed permits our major aquifers like the Ogalala to be pumped dry.
These were gunboats for fire support of local ground forces.
It’s better to have a look now, while the water’s low, since that kind of hazard (probably something that was common knowledge in the vicinity), in a busy river, is probably a good thing to remove.
The historical and military ignorance of modern journalists never ceases to amaze
We have friends who took a Danube River cruise years ago. Going in, they didn’t now that the boat constantly put them ashore to take a bus to the next place where they could re-board the boat. It was awful.
Thanks. Thinking back, I think they had the high-water problem where they could not get under the bridges.
Live shells could still be a problem.
Climate change is the new bogeyman. You can use it to blame for anything. Too wet-climate chane. Too dry-climate change. too hot-etc..
Yeah, that was poorly worded. Unless they think medieval knights went mammoth-hunting?
But at least they made some tasty goulash out of the mammoth meat.
Link?
I am not aware of any mammoths that survived much past the neolithic.
Last mammoths 4000 years ago on Wrangel Island.
Weren't the last surviving mammoths on Wrangel Island "dwarf mammoths"?
You know Iran had a historic drought. But when they destroyed all the radars on the Gulf States the clouds opened up and the drought was over. Probably just a coincidence.
Paleontologists are unsure if they’re dwarf because that’s the subspecies or dwarf because food resources and living space was diminished.
I love my 385 foot deep, spring-fed well. :)
But, yes. You are 100% correct. I’m actually surprised that those that wish us harm (Mother Government, China, Random Terrorists, Socialist Democrats, etc.) HAVEN’T gone after our water supplies by now!
It would be crippling in many parts of the USA - especially well-populated major cities.
I guess we shouldn’t give them any ideas, Right?
For nothing is hidden that will not be made manifest, nor is anything secret that will not be known and come to light.

Isn’t it common for species isolated on an island to become smaller? Compare the so-called “hobbits” (an early human species found on the island of Flores in the East Indies).
