Moroccan King Mohammed VI said his decision to give US President Donald Trump’s name to a US$1 billion (S$1.28 billion) highway that crosses into the disputed Western Sahara expresses his “deep appreciation” of the American leader.
Hailing Trump’s “historic recognition” of Moroccan rule of the Western Sahara in 2020, the king said it “will forever be etched in the memory of Moroccans” and has “given unprecedented momentum to our bilateral relations”.
A resource-rich territory about the size of the UK, the Western Sahara has been disputed by Morocco and an Algerian-backed independence movement since former colonial ruler Spain withdrew in 1975. The UN designates it a non-self-governing territory.

If the video there is correct, if, then it would seem to have been orchestrated by the Moroccan regime who apparently want to wrest Cueta and Melilla from Spain and that this was a destabilization event. It needs further verification though.

For the uninitiated - Morocco was the first country to formally recognize the United States of America as a sovereign country. We have our oldest continuous diplomatic presence there.

I liked the country when I visited. And had a Moroccan girlfriend in Paris. SHe was the Rockin’ Moroccan.
Morocco has had a sultan, then a king, since 788. The current dynasty has ruled since 1631, though they were a French protectorate for a time . What surprises me is that in over 1200 years they’ve only gotten around to six Mohammads as ruler, since in contemporary times so many boys are given that wretched name
