Who knew golfing, skydiving, and scuba diving were a “white” thing?
NBC seems to think they are in their piece “Scuba, skydiving and golf: Black adults embrace sports that defy stereotypes and bring joy.”
Those sports and others like them (tennis, skating, gymnastics) always struck me as a disposable income thing not a race thing, requiring as they do the purchase of expensive lessons and/or expensive equipment and/or expensive travel/venue time. Cash and sheer merit — never race — were always what I thought about when I thought about who participates or excels in these sports.
Evidently not NBC News. NBC wrote the entire piece on the premise that these sports “were once inaccessible” to blacks but are just now becoming accessible because, as one “expert” interviewed accidentally admitted, blacks are now “giving themselves” permission to pursue them.
The piece then quickly moved along, but that single admission early on kinda blew the narrative and begged the question: If these sports are something blacks can now freely give themselves, then how is it whitey’s fault? Why then even bring up the “once inaccessible” pre-civil rights era unless it’s just to cast a long victim/oppressor shadow?
NBC never proffered a single person who’d been recently hounded, harassed, or excluded from these pursuits. The article neither named nor interviewed a single black person rejected, snubbed, or otherwise turned away from golfing, skydiving, scuba diving, etc. They evidently couldn’t find a single one to interview, though I’ve no doubt they tried.
What did NBC offer? No societal barriers, but plenty of black psychological barriers. Prisons and prohibitions of blacks’ own making. No doubt due in large part to a parade of AWFL (Affluent White Female Liberal) K-thru-12-thru-college instructors who indoctrinated them into the victim/oppressor mindset.
The piece opens:

Some of us noticed in the Army that in general the blacks seemed less comfortable with forests, operating in the dark, stressful water exercises and the unknown, in general I doubt that they will reach percentage in adventure sports that are dangerous and difficult requiring precision and daring just for the fun of them being dangerous and difficult and requiring precision and daring.
I think this is a big factor because usually those who tend toward racism are less able to enter these kinds of sports.
I have been in aviation all of my life. Navy and then experimental home built. Never did I observe someone not welcomed either to building or flying because of the color of their skin.
In fact, the closest thing to racism I encountered in aviation was reverse racism when I ran into a group of flyers who called themselves the "Bronze Eagles". You guessed it - you had to be black to be a member. Eh.
We all flew Young Eagles (kids, mostly) together (my EAA chapter and them) and everyone had a good time. I was just surprised such a group existed.
Golfing is a white thing? Tiger Woods might disagree.
I remember a joke about Tiger Woods and Eminem way back in the day....
America. Where the number one golfer is black and the number one rapper is white.
They forgot hockey…LOL.
The only two groups dumb enough to play golf are whites and asians.
I have never met a mountain climber who played golf.

Racists see only race. ONLY. It is the only way for a bitter, envious POShitte to bully others.
folk choose what pleases them. Bullies cannot abide that, choice.

Don’t forget swimming. 😉
Meanwhile in Central Florida, The Villages continues to grow.
As you well know, the Issue is never the issue.
It’s always to further The Revolution.
This was yet another piece from NBC, etc. to generate hate. See Tagline. When I played golf, there were quite a few black players at the modest courses that I could afford.
I keep a list of things that have been dubbed racist at one time or another. Look like I’ll have to add golf, skydiving and scuba to it. Here is the current list of racist things:
Calisthenics
Camping
Chicken and waffles
Classical music
“Cotton-picking” (using it as an expression)
Dr. Seuss
Geology
Hiking
Mathematics
Mickey Mouse
Mike (having it as a first name)
Milk
Organizing your pantry
Picnics
Politeness
Punctuality
Running
Setting an agenda
Swimming
Tennis
Watermelons
Weight control
The only black hockey player I am aware of killed another player.
I know one who played disc golf
So would all the black pro athletes from all of the major sports. Golf is game to pal around, have some beers, friendly wagers, and leave their troubles on their normal fields of play.
Ask DTJ how many of them he has enjoyed a round of golf with.
