As the war with Iran has continued, some are finding that the stress is bringing back old anxieties.
A 4-year-old child began having behavioral problems when his father left for war.
A wife whose husband works in Army intelligence is already dealing with heightened anxiety, even though he hasn’t been deployed yet.
A woman found this year that she is struggling to cope with the news of conflicts at home and abroad, nearly 20 years after she lost her fiancé in combat.
More than 80 percent of military families have reported elevated stress from the war with Iran, driven by safety concerns, deployment changes, and the fear of escalation, according to a March poll of an estimated 200 families by Blue Star Families, one of the largest nonprofits supporting active military and veterans.
As the war with Iran persists, mental health counselors say they are attending to more military families who are reporting stress and anxiety about a conflict that has taken the lives of at least 18 service members and wounded more than 400.
“We have tripled our caseload,” said Hannah Simms, the founder of Rise Alone Therapy, a tele-therapy provider that caters to the military and their families. “Everybody is kind of on edge.”
“There was this understanding that this was going to be a short-term deal,” Ms. Simms added, noting President Trump’s declarations at the beginning of March that the war could last four to five weeks.

Between Dimistroclese and Leonidas the Persians were toast, even when the Persians outnumbered them ten to one.
Thank the good Lord the Greeks eventually won. Otherwise we would all be Persian-Iranian slaves. Yikes, what a nightmare!
It’s unfortunate that so many in the US and abroad read the NY Slimes anymore. Those readers are woefully misinformed and disinformed about nearly every topic. They slurp it up, though, like an Icee on regular day in 1970’s Florida.
I had a colleague when I was doing my residency who had no medical school debt because he’d joined the military. It was a great deal, and he was very happy about it - until he was told he had to deploy. He was not happy about it. He was unlikely to see any combat - as a physician officer, but it just wasn’t what he thought would happen.
Call me what you will, but I actually enjoyed fighting and killing Taliban and Al Qaeda over my 22 year career. I was good at it. I felt alive.
If I were 20 years old again, I’d jump at the opportunity. But, it is a dangerous business.

U.S. forces began launching strikes against Iran at 8 p.m. ET today. The strikes are a powerful response to yesterday’s attempted Iranian attacks on U.S. forces based in the Middle East.
Ummmm - it’s a volunteer military. Everyone that signed up did on their own volition. Knowingly.
Does the NYT think that their only job is stacking sandbags before a hurricane?
Every Dem (aside from Fetterman) is strongly urging us to turn tail and come home for one reason — they know it would be (correctly) perceived by the electorate as an enormous and embarrassing loss for Trump, and would drastically hurt the GOP’s chances in ‘26 and ‘28.
On the other hand, staying there and getting involved in a quagmire situation is equally detrimental politically. So Trump is in quite a spot right now. The best option both politically and from a national security standpoint is to win this war decisively and relatively quickly. And that involves upping the ante of risk considerably.
The country is at war. This isn’t Trump’s war. I would suggest Trump request congress to declare war on Iran.

During Desert Storm, we had a nurse cry her way out of her NG medical unit, after she was notified of a coming deployment to Landstuhl Hospital/Ramstein Germany.
We asked her why she was resigning her commission.
“I signed up for the benefits; not to actually have to do anything, or go anywhere!”
She was ostracized, as our Critical Care unit, if not the entire hospital, was heavily staffed by Guard, Reserves, vets, and military family members.
It wasn’t long before she quit her job.
