"My actual innocence is my truth, and the plea, hinged on by false promises and blatant disinformation, MUST be withdrawn," he told the outlet".

Give him a new trial, but with the death penalty still on the table.
I wonder when “my truth” became an acceptable expression. There is “my opinion” but there is only THE truth.
The phrase and concept of “my truth” arose in feminist/sodomist/racialist/communist academia ... pitting their delusions as “their truth” against the patriarchal heteronormative capitalist colonizing oppressor “truths”.
We watched the beginning of the story on 20/20 re-runs, but we never did hear his motives.
I thought he, a nerd, was jealous of the cool kids. But it’s only a guess.
There’s no hope for him in Idaho..
I thought his plea deal said he had no right to appeal.
That is a succinct wrap-up of the concept. Your dialectic-fu is strong.
He should have read the terms and conditions first
The sentence is imposed by the judge, after he or she agrees to the plea deal.
Did anyone ever figure out his motive?
Hey Banjo Boy did it ever occur to you that the “dogs don’t like thge food,” as the old joke goes.
No. His plea allowed him to remain silent as to the motive but there are theories:

I don’t know myself but I can believe he wanted to prove how ‘smart’ he was and get away with murder.
He says he WANTS the Death Penalty on the table.
“I thought his plea deal said he had no right to appeal.”
it did ... any appeal at this point should simply be thrown out with prejudice ...
“I don’t know myself but I can believe he wanted to prove how ‘smart’ he was and get away with murder.”
that was always my impression too, esp. since he was majoring in criminology ...
OTOH, pyscho-sexual gratification is a strong contender ...
highly likely it could be a combination of both ...
regardless of motive, he slaughtered a passel of innocent youngsters and really should have been hung from the nearest tree as soon as convicted and his hide nailed to the courthouse wall as a warning to others of his ilk ...
and now the families are dragged through this. Even if he is denied his appeal or whatever they call it the press and the attention.
Those poor people. All for what, nothing really. This guys selfish motives, whatever they were.
There is absolutely no evid3nce that he did this...if people would just take the time to r3ad j.enbree you tube bl9g,they would know this...WHO’SDNA WAS UNDER THE VICTIMS FINGERNAILS?
“There is absolutely no evid3nce that he did this..”
How did his DNA get on the knife sheath found in the bed with two of the victims?
