Mitch McConnell update: Will Kentucky Senator attend Monday's vote at Capitol? What we know so far
hindustantimes ^ | July 26 | By Shamik Banerjee

Mitch McConnell has missed 38 Senate votes since his June 12 fall. If absent Monday, it will be his 39th missed vote, extending his absence beyond six weeks.

The United States Senate is set to convene on Monday, July 27, for a key vote to appoint Donald Trump's nominee Walter Clayton as the new Director of National Intelligence.

But the lingering question remains on the Republican Party camp: will Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell be present for Monday's roll call at the Senate? McConnell remains hospitalized at the George Washington University Hospital in Washington DC undergoing rehabilitation after his treatment, according to his staff.

Those claims have remained under question as Senator McConnell has not been seen in public since his June 12 hospitalization. Many popular social media commentators have claimed that McConnell could be "brain dead" amid his prolonged absence. But the Senator's camp has denied it, most recently releasing two photos of the Senator from the hospital as proof of life.

But those who question the credibility of the claims assert that photos are not enough and the Senator's team should issue a video of proof of life. As a result, McConnell's health has slowly snowballed into what could be the biggest health-related political cover-up in US politics since former President Joe Biden.

I wonder if they will wheel him in. A senator has to be there in-person to vote

Past Major Episodes: March 2023 Concussion: Suffered a severe concussion and broken rib after tripping at a Washington hotel, leading to a multi-week absence.Freezing Spells (2023): Briefly froze and stopped speaking during two separate public press conferences, prompting widespread medical scrutiny before medical teams cleared him of having strokes or seizures. Hard telling.

Wonder if he will wear a really nice sky blue windbreaker.
Bernie looked just right in his.

Real life story I’ve posted before. In my state of Michigan the earliest Dingell was replaced in the House by John Dingell (lived 1926-2019) and then by his widow Debbie Dingell.

When John Dingell was really declining he was wheeled into the House by a young aide who told him what bill was up for a vote. Dingell couldn’t raise his head on his own so he just nodded and the vote was signaled. The aide wheeled him out of the chamber afterward.

In the US House from 1955 until 2015. The Dem holds the record as the longest-serving member of Congress in American history.

Today’s “joke” line is that McConnell has “rigor tortoise.”

Make of that what you will.

MTG gets grief for quitting Congress when she qualified for a pension. I don’t know if that’s true, but it’s certainly better than these dinosaurs clutching on to power for dear life.

I want a job where I don’t show up for 6 weeks, people wonder if I am alive, and I still get paid.

You "don't know if that's true"? She announced her resignation and then timed the date it was effective to be after she qualified for the pension.

“Rigor tortoise,” you say?

That sounds like something discovered during a post-turtlem!

He may arrive (I doubt it) complaining of confusion, cognitive and memory deficits and feeling light headed.

As evidence he is like most of the Senators so can vote on bills.

Current US Senate:

One third are over 70 (33).

Three oldest:
Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) – 92.
Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) – 84.
Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) – 83.

The overall average age of a sitting senator is 64 to 65 years old.

Five sitting senators are in their 80s or 90s.

Hindustan Times is India leading paper.
Looks like India press is more interested in Mitch health than US papers.
BTW, it seems a lot warmer in Phoenix than in New Delhi
36 degC = 97 degF
Piece of cake, we just had 116F.

most recently releasing two photos of the Senator from the hospital as proof of life.

"Most recently" is now two weeks ago, with no further updates. That's not a particularly great sign he didn't take a turn for the worst in those last two weeks.

I think he already turned Democrat. It’s official when they put the toe tag on and shut the freezer door.

In a lot of companies, sick time is cumulative...so 6 weeks is not out of the question...and probably not that unusual..

Perhaps they all get the same congressional pension, not adjusted up by extra years served?
