“The Odyssey” didn’t need a Trojan Horse to break into the top of Friday’s box office charts.
Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” earned $51 million on Friday from 3,919 North American screens. Early estimates had the saga grossing $90 million to $100 million by Sunday, but after a stellar opening day, forecasts have the film climbing as high as $120 million. “The Odyssey” will soon become the third film in 2026 to open above $100 million after “Toy Story 5” ($159 million) and “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” ($131 million). “The Odyssey” carries a hefty $250 million price tag.
An $120 million opening for “The Odyssey” would rank as Nolan’s best since “The Dark Knight Rises,” which debuted to a staggering $160 million in 2012. Weekend one projections for “The Odyssey” blow past Nolan’s 2023 best picture winner, “Oppenheimer,” which made $82 million over its opening weekend and powered to $975 million by the end of its run. Also, with $51 million on Friday, “The Odyssey” has already outgrossed the entire opening weekend of Nolan’s 2014 opus “Interstellar” ($47.5 million).

No.
Dims are turning out in support.
The film got a 97% audience score on rotten tomatoes.
That says something.

There’s a massive spread of reviews unlike I’ve seen much in movies. From ‘it’s boring woke trash’ to ‘it’s action packed fantastic’.
I’ll see it later this week. I want this one to be good enough, that’s all.
I got really tired of Nolan’s shtick after tenet. Hes just a boring director. Im sure the movie 90% fine but I’m not going to watch 3 hours of his dull directing
Says the writer is woke.....

How legit is the “audience”?
Not if it was free and came with a complementary doobie.
The rotten tomatoes initial audience scores are rigged badly. Wait.
Too much working against it for me to see it. Matt Damon. Greek ethnic cleansing. A ludicrous Achilles. It may have crossover appeal to superhero movie fans, but I was burned out on that type of movie decades ago.
Might take the doobie to doze thru it
Amazing how many here are daft on culture
Or surrender monkeys
The wokie brokies have to make a point of making this one a success.
So you are fine with Hollywood taking a dump on your face. Enjoy watching your tranny and a black lesbo as Helen of Troy.
Someone here posted Helen of Troy looked more like Helen of Detroit.

It seems pretty legit. 5000+ audience reviews and they don’t seem like generated AI reviews, plus a few detractors.
I haven’t seen the film myself, but I think I’m going to give it a chance and go see it. Earlier I thought it would be unwatchable but now am not so sure
Please give us your review after you go see it.
This movie was widely panned here on Free Republic, even before it came out,, because of a black woman playing Helen of Troy , and that transgender girl playing the part of a boy in the movie.
Do those casting choices cancel out the rest of the movie , as to whether it’s a decent film or not? When you see it, please let us know.
I have no plans to watch a "woke," and/or "re-imagined" version of a Western Classic - and instead I plan to use the time to re-read The Odyssey, either Robert Fitzgerald or Robert Fagles' translation.
BTW:
I'll take Homer's description of "Helen of Troy" as fair-haired and light-eyed.
I haven’t seen it...
But initially, there had been lots of bad reviews on it.
Then about a week ago, when all the bad reviews started predicting the movie was going to flop, almost all leftist media sites started a full court press of continuously posting articles about how great the movie was, it’s the best movie ever since xyz, and how it would sweep awards, etc.
All the initial box office views will be from people fooled by the media narrative, and there’s likely going to be a big 2nd week drop off.
