Prepare to see Han shoot Greedo on the big screen again. For years, we thought it could never happen. But now we know for certain — the 50th anniversary theatrical release of the original Star Wars will indeed be George Lucas' original cut from 1977, not available commercially since 2006. The original Star Wars movie hasn't had a wide theatrical release in over forty years. But, according to the Star Wars official site, the original version of Star Wars blasts its way back into movie theaters for a limited release on February 19, 2027. This happens almost thirty years to the day that Star Wars: A New Hope: Special Edition was released theatrically to huge financial success.

There were about three different cuts that got released IIRC.

Republic of China national anthem at the beginning that we all had to stand for or create an incident.

At least it isn't the PRC national anthem. I could stand for the real China anthem.

I never understood what the new title, A New Hope, is referring to.

It doesn't matter. The re-release won't have it.

This is the original only release from Summer 1977. I have it “on tape” if I can find a VCR player, but those are harder to find.

Uh, when George Lucas is allowed to present any film unedited, it usually becomes a boring slog. I’ll pass.

I know it is wiki but this seems to match what I remember.

In May, Star Wars had a limited theatrical release. After its success, a wider release of the film included a few special-effects changes and reformatted credits. Three different audio versions (a Dolby Stereo mix, a six-channel mix for 70 mm screenings, and a mono mix print) were created, with significant differences. Notably, the mono mix print featured several alternate and additional sound effects and lines of dialogue.

So which one is he going to use?

We didn’t really mind anyway to do it. But especially after the crowd’s reaction to the movie. They already loved the US before seeing that...

1977, Bitburg, Germany.

Saw it in a German theater downtown with a couple beers and a few smokes.

Good Times.

Why would her death lead to this? Because she edited the original so it would be an homage to her work, or some other reason?

Hopefully the longest one with the most dialog. I remember he was pretty miffed at some of his earlier movies being cut down.

Saw it in 1977 too -- Hahn AFB, Germany.
Not to far from you.

Thank heavens I missed this. But I did set through the two Ewok movies with the little girl so cute she made me want to puke. The films were so Saccharin I was afraid I had gotten diabetes from watching them. ONCE was enough.

By the time I find where the tickets are available, the Star Wars nerds will buy it out.
