Prepare to see Han shoot Greedo on the big screen again. For years, we thought it could never happen. But now we know for certain — the 50th anniversary theatrical release of the original Star Wars will indeed be George Lucas' original cut from 1977, not available commercially since 2006. The original Star Wars movie hasn't had a wide theatrical release in over forty years. But, according to the Star Wars official site, the original version of Star Wars blasts its way back into movie theaters for a limited release on February 19, 2027. This happens almost thirty years to the day that Star Wars: A New Hope: Special Edition was released theatrically to huge financial success.

Greedo doesn't shoot first. In fact he doesn't shoot at all.

I had a feeling they were going to do this after Marcia Lucas passed away.

Excuse the old article posting, but this is still relevant due to the upcoming release.

Maybe they'll have an theatrical release of the 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special.

Luckily, I was able to completely miss that.

You need to watch it. You’ll then understand how the producers of Star Wars view the audience, and all the terrible movies will make sense.

I saw it with Chinese subtitles in a downtown Taipei movie theater in 1977 with the Republic of China national anthem at the beginning that we all had to stand for or create an incident. “Star Wars” wouldn’t get to the base theater for at least another 6 months. Can’t relive that whole experience.

So they’ve gone from making great movies, to making mediocre sequels and spinoffs of great movies, to doing inferior remakes of old movies, to just re-releasing the movies of yesteryear. I guess that’s what a dying movie industry looks like.

The last card Disney has to play. No way will they get my money after what they did to the franchise.

It was a good shoot, the only option possible since the guy already had a gun on him and had him under his control, at least he thought he had him under control.

Personally, I’d rather have Tinseltown rerelease old classics than come up with mediocre films.

My friends and I were in the first theater group to see the first showing in Champaign, IL that day and for all of us it was a near religious experience. We were stunned and amazed by what we saw, I returned seven times in the course of three days. From our pov it was a turning point in cinema history.

I remember seeing it in 1977 in San Diego when I was in the Navy.

Leia looks like she’s either singing opera, or doing something a little less family friendly.

Here is the original shoot, it is obvious why none of us thought anything was wrong with it, it was a standard cowboy tv show shooting.

I never understood what the new title, A New Hope, is referring to. A hope to defeat Darth Vader and the empire?
