Taylor Farms to recall ingredients linked to ‘explosive diarrhea’ parasite cyclosporiasis outbreak

Fresh produce giant Taylor Farms is preparing to recall ingredients linked to a parasite outbreak that has caused severe diarrhea and sickened thousands of people in Michigan and nearby states, according to a report.

The California-based lettuce supplier told federal regulators that it was preparing a recall tied to the widening cyclospora outbreak, Bloomberg News reported Friday, citing a document viewed by the outlet. The parasite can cause severe diarrhea, fatigue and nausea.

The scope of the recall was not immediately clear.

The move would mark the clearest sign yet of a potential source of the outbreak, which prompted Taco Bell earlier this week to remove some lettuce from restaurants in the Midwest.

Federal health officials on Thursday linked the illnesses to shredded lettuce served at the fast-food chain and pointed to a single supplier.

Vegetables and fruit from Mexico, where farm workers shit between rows, while working, doesn’t seem the most sanitary.

When I worked in China almost 50 years ago (small Yunnan Province village that was getting a new fertlizer plant), I saw people ducking buckets into the community “honey pot” and hauling the raw sewage to the fields to fertilize the crops. That was astonishing and a real eye-opener.

That’s why I don’t eat vegetables. As if I needed a reason!

Taylor Farms has multiple processing facilities in Mexico in South America...even though they label as a Salinas CA company.

All the effected lettuce in the recall came from Mexico...something nobody wants you to know.

“Fresh produce giant Taylor Farms”

Very popular brand for salad kits here in So Cal. Zero doubt we have a bag of their Bourbon Bacon kit in the fridge right now. Bon Appétit!

Lettuce in Mexico is harvested by hand by migrant agricultural laborers and
local field workers.

Guess where they take a dump when they have to go?

I just had a colonoscopy a few weeks ago and the prep is an unpleasant experience. I don’t want that again so I shall not be going to Taco Bell.

Every ten years I believe.

It varies, depending on things like number and type of polyps found, family history of colorectal cancer, etc. I've had intervals of as little as one year recommended, though I have to admit I went a good bit longer. The most recent one was just a couple of weeks ago and they said five years, so that's good.
