Navy Blue Angels’ ultra-low flyover causes chaos on Florida beach: 'Thought we were going to be taken out'

A Florida beach erupted into chaos Wednesday when an ultra-low-altitude Blue Angels flyover sent tents, chairs and umbrellas flying into the air — leaving spectators on the shoreline stunned as the jet engines roared just feet above their heads, wild video shows.

The “Breakfast with the Blues” annual flyover — part of the Pensacola Beach Air Show — sent sunbathers into a frenzy as the specialized US Navy jets flew terrifyingly close to the shore — stirring up clouds of sand and sending beach gear airborne, WEAR News reported.

Tents, beach chairs and umbrellas were tossed around by the thrust from the jet’s engines and some of the gear reportedly hit several people, according to videos posted to social media.

The extent of injuries, if any, is unknown at this point.

Despite the chaos, some beachgoers say they will remember the patriotic air display for a long time to come.

The Blue Angels leadership is reviewing the super low flyover.

“The safety of our hometown community, spectators, and our pilots is our highest priority,” a spokesperson for the specialized Navy demonstration group told WEAR News.

“Team leadership is reviewing the circumstances surrounding the maneuver and conducting a thorough safety review to ensure all operations adhere to strict Navy and FAA safety standards,” the statement said.

The Blue Angels have been doing the thrilling flyover at Pensacola Beach for 80 years, according to WEAR News — an annual tradition that draws in large crowds to the shoreline.

The multi-day annual air show sees as many as 250,000 people visit the town each year to catch a glimpse of the action.

Why do we still have these flying units?

They serve ZERO purpose. Air shows as well. JUST CANCEL THEM ALL. Save the fuel.

Former Zoomie here. I know it’s blasphemy, but I’ve always preferred the Blue Angels to the Thunderbirds.

Notice the cloud cover? The Blues are doing their “Low Show”, which I personally enjoy much more.

Depending on whether you are referring to the intense exhaust (jet blast) on the ground or the swirling atmospheric disruption (wake turbulence) in the air, a jet’s displaced air can last for up to 3 minutes and travel over 10 miles.

Airliners landing one after another are often warned about wake turbulence from other planes up to 10 miles in front of them.

Tailhook...???

This is about a pilot flying low over a populated beach.

The planes look better and carrier pilots are apparently better pilots when it comes to flying just above the deck.

Just who are these snowflakes? Most people would pay good money for a beach show like that!
Let me know when the next one is scheduled!

The Blue Angels practice every Wednesday afternoon in Pensacola. Stop on by if you are in the area.

I’m on the SE Atlantic coast, but I see a midweek visit in my future. Thanks for the info!

America went from THIS...

To pansies who whine about strong wind from a plane.

Yes, let's focus only on the turbulence and ignore the risk of the force of a fueled-up 35,000lb aircraft piloted that low over a crowd.

I saw that tweet from Acting Secretary of the Navy Hung Cao but noticed it was not a blue-checked account so it might not be legit.
