Ping!.................
I believe it, but am slightly skeptical. It looks like they cut the video (three times?) before they shut the engines off. I want to see what happened after the engines cut off.
Credit where it’s due, really a pretty good idea...
Catching it with cables rather than the precision required for a chopsticks landing. See how well it scales up.
little kids playing with rockets
What’s Elon’s reaction to this?
almost guaranteed that all of their tech for this was stolen from SpaceX ...
Investment well spent (on espionage). /s
Here’s the question though - would they have even attempted this if SpaceX had not already accomplished such feats?
It’s the Chinese model, catch up by copying what has already been done. It’s far easier than spending billions on research to do something actually unique...when you don’t even know it’ll work.
Everyone talks about the speed they’re developing at - but when there’s massive government funding for specific “catch up technologies” that are already proven to work, it’s far easier. That top-down approach isn’t going to work quite as well when it comes to true R&D for things that have never been attempted before.
...it’s also easier when you steal IP to get there.
Space X was responsible for more than 90% of satellite launches last year. I can’t see China taking more than a little portion of that business.
“Rockets are hard” is what he said the Bezos.
If China has caught up with Elon, can Boeing be too many years behind?
The U.S. has competition....the world’s Wealth is moving from the West to the East.
Or Amazon or Virgin Galactic?................
Yes, a lot copied... or stolen. When SpaceX was trying out carbon fiber for the boosters, China started doing it. When SpaceX went instead to stainless steel, then China started doing that. When SpaceX used methane fuel instead of traditional rocket fuels, China copied that. When SpaceX used fins to guide the boosters back, China copied that. And so on and so on.
Only now have they tried something different, a net of cables that close up as the booster re-enters. Clever and original.
Are they burning coal in that thing? What’s with all the black smoke? Made it look like they were landing a chimney.
Mongolian BBQ..................
Signed, the Chinese communists.
It looks like it may have fallen overboard…..😀
SpaceX competition, good one. 😁
