Her match with millionaire Florida businessman and retired pilot Paul Vitale, 69, quickly blossomed into a glamorous long-distance romance filled with luxury gifts, Caribbean trips and a beachfront condo overlooking the Gulf.

But according to an explosive federal lawsuit, Atherton alleges Vitale turned her into his sex slave, forcing her to wear a dog collar, sleep with other men and bring him to climax twice a day.

Now, she and her lawyers say her story shows that women can become victims of sexual abuse regardless of their wealth, success or independence.

Atherton claims in the lawsuit that her relationship with Vitale spiraled after they struck up an instant connection during their first video call in February 2025.

Atherton alleges Vitale's constant attention won her trust so completely that she opened up to him about a history of sexual abuse.

In the old days, before Amazon, to be a "best-selling author" meant you appeared on either the New York Times or Publisher's Weekly lists. Time, Newsweek and the Los Angeles Times created their own lists, but they weren't regarded seriously by the industry. Not really official.

Then Amazon came. And Kindle and self-publishing. And Amazon created so many sub-categories, that it's easy to appear on their lists. I self-published a Kindle book that rose to double digits on one list, and it only sold one copy a week.
