After years of ignoring the world's most popular sport, Americans finally took a keen interest in soccer after discovering how much it can irritate Europeans.
With social media flooded by outraged Europeans crying about having to play the U.S. team at its full strength, Americans were struck by a sudden epiphany.
"So this is why people love soccer," said local man Brad Stephens, watching the Belgian coach cry like a baby. "All these years, I never understood it. Aw, look at those big crocodile tears! I just never knew how much rage and anguish we could put Europeans through with soccer. This is incredible."
Europeans vented their rage across the entire continent due to FIFA deciding that Folarin Balogun, the U.S. striker who was issued an erroneous red card, would be allowed to play after the error was corrected. "How dare it be a fair game? I cannot stop crying and shaking," said local Belgian Maarten Jansen. "We shouldn't have to actually play the the other team, that's so not right. We're special soccer people, and America doesn't even understand the rules! How can FIFA just fix a mistake like that, and now we don't get an advantage? Whaaaa. Boo-hoo!"
At publishing time, the U.S. men's World Cup game had set a new viewership record as tens of millions tuned in to watch more Europeans cry.

It’s still just soccer...
Not just Europeans - tell the Canucks that the fans had a better time in Mexico and hear the teeth grind.
Heh, heh. That may be true of Europeons who stayed in Europe but the Europeons who came here to watch the games probably don’t care. They have fallen in love with America.
I'm not a soccer aficionado and never will be.
IT’S A WIN
I have to imagine the media is livid...National and international.
So many stories from world cup fans saying how their home country media has been lying to them about how terrible America and Americans are.
The media is sooooo smart....they didn’t see that coming.
but I hated soccer all that running up and down the field ,it just wore me out ,LOL
You don’t get this?

It’s hilarious, because that’s exactly why they’re whining.
You would think by the way Belgium is reacting that it happened to their player, it was a Bosnian player and it was clearly an accident. It happens all the time in the NBA, during the finals Wemby tackled Brunson, he already had 15 technical fouls against him, one more and he would have been suspended the next game and the NBA didnt want that..and if Belgium is such a great team they can win on their own merit, they dont have to have an asterisk victory, but they are bitching because they wanted an easy peasy win, I dont think so
There’s a lot of adjectives I can use to describe soccer, but ‘exciting’ isn’t one of them...............
I don’t watch soccer so I haven’t seen a second of the World Cup but its my understanding that the red card was pretty much universally agreed to have been wrongly issued AND that FIFA has overturned several other red cards/bans in this tournament when bad calls like that were made.
So why all the screaming and crying about this one call being overturned?
We can agree to disagree on this, FRiend.
Americans don’t often understand what’s happening in the game, so that’s why it just seems boring. These matches in the 16-team knock out round have been very exciting.
Europe is belly-aching because they are afraid Americans are learning *their* game. Well, of course we are, and we’re getting better at it, too.
More true than joke. :)
How can FIFA just fix a mistake like thatI don't have any idea what this means. I and I don't care.
Well. “American” striker Folarin Balogun is a Yoruba, not a Bostonian, a New Yorker, or an Arizonan!

Nevertheless, soccer or association football is “the beautiful game”, and Americans can add it to its list of favorite sports!
Hey Gunther! Nice knees!
Ja, Wolfgang! Not girlyman knees like Wilhelm!
Vot!? I am offended! I will thrust a yellow card in the air - like so!
Ooooh! So manly! Ya!
I think it’s interesting that people comment on things they don’t understand and profess not to care about. If one doesn’t care, then why bother? Why take the time out of one’s day?
There are lots of threads on FR that I don’t pipe in on, often because I don’t have thoughts one way or the other about a topic. It would be a waste of time for me to post on every topic. So I pick and choose.
You chose to post, but say you don’t care. Hmmm.
Different strokes for different folks, I guess.
