While news reports have focused on the Middle East for most of 2026, the war in Ukraine has intensified and its potential for continental spillover increased. Also, there is evidence suggesting the globalists are fomenting escalation. Writers for the Council on Foreign Relations say that America should prepare to join Central and Western Europe in an eventual war against Russia. A Russian spokesperson recently appeared on a popular American podcast saying that, at this rate, the conflict is indeed heading toward another world war.

State-controlled Russian media reported on Friday that a Ukrainian drone attack killed five Russian civilians and injured another 18. These are the latest casualties resulting from weeks of intense strike exchanges between the Russians and Ukrainians. The day before, Russia hit Ukraine’s capital, reportedly killing 27 and injuring dozens of other civilians.

Ukraine has, by all accounts, ratcheted up the pressure on Russia with effective attacks inside the Motherland that have disrupted energy flow, flights, and civilian life in general. The point of the attacks, Ukraine’s leaders have said, is to bring the consequences of the war to the Russian people with the larger goal of making Russia more amenable during negotiations…

Then you must know, there's a whole Convention of the States movement, including an organization called COSA -- Convention of the States Action -- founded by Mark Meckler and Michael Ferris.

The 20 states are: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

I note from the map (right) that swing-states like NC, VA, PA, OH & MI all have strong majorities favoring a COS.

I think it's a noble idea, but given the insanities ruling our Democrats and split opinions among Republicans these days, I doubt if a COS could ever happen, or if anything constructive could result from it.

My problem with altering the Constitution is, when it was written there were wealthy people but their influence, if at all, was entirely positive. But now there are billionaires who can write a check to every member of the convention that would more than equal their pay for a lifetime. The sway individual wealthy people will have would entirely warp the convention and we might end up with something tilted in the wrong direction. It’s just too dangerous to rewrite the constitution now. There’s no way to control it to the items desired as proposed.

I see notjing but down side to this. As questionable to many what the first and second amendments mean, a COS could cement leftist goals like gun bans and speech controls.

Funny thing about Mark Levin.

When I first started listening after he got his radio show he was very much against an Article 5 Convention.

I called it dangerous. Which of course anything that is capable of creating change would be.

And of course any wise person when doing anything dangerous takes steps to ameliorate those dangers.

He had an epiphany somewhere along the way.

But, yes I am aware of the Convention of the States movement.

You're right.
Those wealthy people had all put their lives, fortunes and honor on the line in a 7-year war for independence that had cost most of them dearly.
About half of the Declaration of Independence's 56 signers suffered major personal & property losses during the war.

By 1787, George Washington was one of the country's wealthiest men and all of the others at the Constitution Convention in Philadelphia were wealthy enough to support their often-unpaid government service.

In 1787, such men had well-earned the country's trust and, just as important, they trusted and liked each other, were willing to work together, negotiate differences in good faith and sought the common good more than their local & sectional interests.

Sadly, we don't have such people today, and that is why, like you, I doubt if anything useful would come out of an Article 5 Convention of the states.

Look at one example from your list: Gen. Jack Keane is a retired 4-star whose Army career was all about war.
He is a defender of the nation, not a "war pig".

As head of ISW, he reliably represents the US military perspective on international events.
That is looking out for America's best interests from a military perspective, not "war pig".

For months now, Keane has said negotiations with Iran will likely fail and more US military actions there will be required.
Those are facts, and saying them doesn't make Keane or anyone else a "war pig".

Just yesterday, Pres. Trump told NATO partners in Turkey that the cease-fire with Iran was over and that US bombing will increase.
Does that make Trump a "war pig"?
No, because you have to look at Trump's actions as negotiations intended to eliminate Iran's threats to its neighbors, and to bring peace in the region.

How much US bombing that will require is up to Iranians, not Pres. Trump, much less retired 4-star Jack Keane.

I started listening to him regularly when he started appearing as a guest on Fox news Hannity Show and later I listened to his radio show.

If you look at the list in post #88 of COS supporters, the name Rand Paul stands out, as does Ron DeSantis, Greg Abbot and Mike Huckabee.
Plus, former senators Santorum, DeMint and Coburn, along with several other Republican luminaries.

I'd assume those are the kinds of names which swayed Mark Levin's views on the subject.

To me, given our fractured politics, I see no chance of a productive Convention, and huge opportunities for further Leftist mischief.
One shudders to think if a Bernie Sanders, Gavin Newsome, Nancy Pelosi, AOC, Ilhan Omar or Maxine Walters were helping to write new amendments, or a new US Constitution.

But, we can also look on the bright side, and someday our current disputes could be behind us, then proposals by Levin & others become the conservative "stake in the ground" for what we want to see from a Convention of the States.

Key point: as conservatives we are not necessarily opposed to amending the Constitution, but we do insist that any such changes happen via constitutionally sanctioned (meaning approved) methods.
The US Constitution can be legitimately unmade using the same processes which first made it.
