It was bad when the Bidens did it, and it’s just as bad when the Trumps do it.
Insider deals, finders’ fees and backdoor introductions to family members are business-as-usual in Third World banana republics, but these slimy practices have now been normalized in the White House, to the shame of the nation.
The New York Times reports that Eric and Donald Trump Jr., sons of President Trump, and Kyle and Brandon Lutnick, sons of Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, are tied to a billion-dollar tungsten mining deal that the US government is financing in Kazakhstan.
The prez himself actually called in to a meeting between Secretary Lutnick and Kazakhstan’s president as the deal was being finalized.
Cantor Fitzgerald, the investment banking company founded by Lutnick and now run by his sons, has long been a prominent underwriter of global mining projects.
Lutnick himself has stepped away from the company. But Cantor Fitzgerald’s interests have certainly not been harmed by having its founder in Trump’s cabinet: Cantor is an adviser or underwriter for at least 13 mining companies that have or are in the process of getting major financing or contracts from the federal government.
The Trump sons, meanwhile, are part-owners or investors in companies neck-deep in a key defense contract to mine tungsten reserves in Central Asia.
It stinks to high heaven.
If a president’s family making bank from obscure resource companies in the former Soviet Union sounds familiar, maybe that’s because Hunter Biden’s lucrative connection to Burisma — a Ukrainian gas company — was a major scandal in the 2020 election and beyond.
Republicans, including Donald Trump, were justifiably outraged at the obvious influence-peddling.
Hunter Biden’s role as Biden family bagman....became the emblem of a rotten, damaged Oval Office.

Ok .. so are people in Kazakhstan dying in a war to make the trump boys rich?
Big difference.
Moving goalposts much?
The comments in this thread are just spectacularly sad.
Principles are hard - if they were easy, everyone would have them.
I don’t understand how they can write this editorial without dating anything factual. Trump kids are involved in some way with companies that do tungsten mining.
The Trump administration is supporting a deal that involves mining tungsten.
Ok how are the kids involved? What do their companies do? It doesn’t sound like they are directly involved in the mining company.
Saying they are “neck deep” in that industry is saying nothing.
And this is based on a NYT story.

the Dims made the playing field so fair is fair!!!
so none of a presidents children can have jobs? Even if they are well qualified for them and provide real value to the employers that hire them that has nothing to do with their father being president?
I agree the U.S. should be shoring up critical mining deals that shore up U.S. access to certain critical materials. The Presidents sons, their associates and the President’s associates should have no part of the deals.
Hey dumbass, google NYT’s. Trump and Russia. Get a clue you imbecile.
You are soooo eager to believe any hit job article about Trump that you accept as fact an opinion piece from a rag that has continuously lied about Trump from the time he stepped into office.
Carry on clown.
No wonder book sales are down.
You are throwing a wrench of logic into a cog of “Trump can do no wrong” wheel.
What ever happened to “Caesar’s wife must be above reproach.”?
Hope this helps:
During the call, Mr. Trump and his team won an agreement from the Kazakh leader to give a little-known American company access to one of the world’s largest untapped reserves of tungsten, a metal that the United States desperately needs for the production of missile warheads, fighter jets, computer chips and other critical goods.
Ahead of the deal, the Trump administration approved preliminary applications for as much as $1.6 billion in federal financing for the American company, now called Kaz Resources, which plans to break ground on the project in rural Kazakhstan.
It was not only Mr. Trump and Mr. Lutnick who saw an opportunity.
Their sons were soon doing business with partners in a deal that their fathers were negotiating, continuing a pattern of self-enrichment in the second Trump administration that has few precedents in American history.
Within weeks of the St. Regis negotiations, investors with a firm called Dominari Securities, which is housed at Trump Tower in New York and partly owned by the president’s two eldest sons, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, joined with other partners to take a 20 percent stake in a corporate entity related to the Kazakhstan project.
Around the same time, Cantor Fitzgerald, an investment company controlled by Mr. Lutnick’s family and overseen by his sons Brandon and Kyle Lutnick, helped one of the lead investors working with Dominari on the Kazakh deal raise $210 million in new capital for a related entity. Such rounds of fund-raising typically net Cantor millions of dollars in fees.
I just replied to a FR on whether secret agencies like FBI, CIA should become more open.
What is currently being done in the open is what prior administrations did thru the secrete agencies. Trump can’t get break.
He does it in secret and gets bad press.
He proposes just a slight bit of sunshine on the secrets and gets bad press.
He does it in the open and gets bad press.
Maybe if the Biden crime family were rotting in jail for what they did, then maybe…just maybe….I’d be willing to take the time to explain why this comparison is complete horse shit...
But the Bidens lined their pockets and are still walking free.. so.. case closed.
If Trump was:
Doing mass deportations
Draining the swamp
Cleaning out the FBI and CIA
Impeaching obstructionist judges
Releasing the Epstein/JFK/911 files
Stopping the mass surveillance of Americans
NOT spending our money and hero’s lives for Israel
etc....
I would have no problem with him doing this stuff. He could declare himself Emperor for all I care.
But he isn’t. He has abandoned us. They should throw him in jail for this.
“The Trump sons, meanwhile, are part-owners or investors in companies neck-deep in a key defense contract to mine tungsten reserves in Central Asia.”
This is guilt by 3 degrees of separation. I own a mutual fund which probably owns stock in these same companies, maybe $5 worth. I’m a part owner of Apple and Microsoft and Anthropic, whoopee! ridiculous on its face. Hunter Biden was on the Board of Directors of Burisma, not an “investor”. He was not an investor because he is a crack addict and doesn’t have a plug nickel to invest in anything.
So Trump negotiated a deal
and then his sons were “soon after” involved in deals with partners of the company involved.
If they got involved after the company already had its deal, where is the corruption?
It was a private transaction where the sons were given access to a lucrative deal without competition or timely disclosure.
